Getting married in Cyprus seems like a profitable business.
Just want to hear peoples comments and remarks

That is a veyy good point. Any girls out there fancy going into business? Marriage, divorce, marriage again, divorce again........keep repeating the cycle till we get enough to buy a couple of appartments before going our own seperate ways....

Seriously though, since my sister moved to Arradipou, she is finding around 10 invites to weddings a month in her mailbox, weddings involving people she has no idea who they are.

A brilliant cultural event , the father pays for the wedding expenses and the couple get a few thousands to give them a good start . Fantastic idea I hope it carries on , the youngsters need all the help they can get .

it is a booming business but I think they are probably set in their ways of how a wedding should be.....
some people do the wedding dance here in Australia too - my hubby and I didnt want that as we felt awkward people pinning money on us.....
haha Hazza
we used to get invites in the mailbox too!

This systems works well for the Cypriots , the parents do have a duty to assist their off springs. Hence no council estates , run down housing , most couples owning their property and they in turn will do the same for their children one day.Nothing at all wrong in this.

Tha family values have reallye weared out in the UK. In eastern mediterranean countries like Italy, Greece, Cyprus etc. family is still very important, no father will let his daughter pay for her wedding even if she was richer than him, it is an honour thing! Usually the cost of the marriage is shared between the two families.

As for the money gifts well I do not agree with them but it is in our culture so we cannot deny them. The worst part is when you think you want to invite someone just because you want them to come and they take it that you do invite them only for that little white envelope.

This only works in Cyprus where you invite 4,000 people to give you a kiss on the cheek and some money. In return you given them a slice of cake and a sip of cheap champagne (sparkling wine). Its massivley profitable, even for the closer family that stay for dinner it cost the couple about £3 per person.

HOWEVER, in London even the largest hall will only accomodate about 400 people, and even though they are likely to give you more money than in Cyprus the couple will pay up to £50 per person for guests.

Basically you will be lucky to break even in London.

The sickening thing in Cyprus is when you get invited to a wedding and its just for gifts and kisses and then they send you home and have the party and dinner just for a select few close family members. How cheap!!!!!
