Avyixy and all others,

I thank you all very much for your honesty in your replys.

The story goes like this.....
i visited on holiday about 2 weeks ago, and found Cyprus NOT to be the rosey picture of happines my parents and others painted for me.

I think my parents generation problem is that, "they expect to pick things up where they left off".
Too much has changed since then i dont want them to find out the hard way. I suppose thats the real reason im in this posting.

As for my Job, and i dont want to brag but iv worked my BeHind off to get where i am today. I work for a sub company of BT. I suppose i can get a job in CyTa but i cant be bothered with the whole language barrier/ fittin in/ prooving yourself from the start again nonsense. My focus career wise is focusing on IT rather that focusing Language and other social aspects working life - sounds awful i know - i guess im know what i want when it comes to career.

Secondly, where i live in the UK im the only BBC in town. All i see is pasty white women -nothin wrong with that - but when i was in Cyprus all i saw was the pritty olive oil skin women. Nice right?
I think Mohammed Ali stated it best when he said, "In the jungle u see tigers with tigers, Lions with lions, Monkeys with Monkey - nothing wrong with wanting to be with your own kind." - the problem is this..... Who is my own kind?

Depressed yet? Confused? Any further advice? Hope that clears things up avyixy?

Anyways, how did you all make the decision of moving to the Island of doom and gloom?

oh and Blondophile- ever think of keepin some sort of online diary for people wanting to make the leap?
U know documenting both postive and negative stuff? Would be interestin for people in the same situation to follow - what do u think?

Cyprus is a great place to retire too so long as your not dependant on work and money, if you are then they have you by the short and curlies, and will and can treat you anyway they like, and yes you will have a probation period and more than likely have to start from scratch. I have a degree in England and that counts for nothing here. You either have to be very lucky or know someone who is prepared to help you. its not what you know but who you know. And they will fear you if you know more than they do and treat you badly. Stay where you are and then come and retire out here later.

will your questionaire apply to me too?
an Australian cypriot?

I personally dont think its an ideal place to bring up kids, although safe its a tad too small heehee

I am now in the USA. But I didnt grow up here. When I was about 13 we moved to Cyprus from the Uk. I came to the US when I was 22 to study and met my husband. I will move back to Cyprus but when I am retired.

unique_earthling, good point cheers.
Thing is, i know lots of people in Cyprus that could land me a job, but BUUUT,
whats the point in going through Uni, then gainin a professional Certification, then having 4 yrs industry experience, when all i need to do is pull a few strings?

Maybe im just being too independant, but if i were to land a job through some1 i know, it would make everythin i have achieved for myself so far a waste of time. Would u not agree??
or have i been used to doing things my own way for far too long??

As for the treating me badly because of what i know - ohhh man there would be some trouble.
unique_earthling - what do u do for a living? have u experience of being treated badly because of what u know?
Any chance i could come and work with u :)

Mr_n1 You've been living in the UK for 25 years so that makes you a big boy right?
You say you have Cypriot parents but you dont speak Greek.
If you've Cypriot parents I think you may even surprise yourself how much you've picked up.
My son is 21 I'm English my Wife is Cypriot we didnt think he knew a lot of Greek Then one day he upped and left to Cyprus with no job waiting He had a job within a fortnight and after a couple of weeks he was speaking as good as the locals Not even a hint of him being a charlie.
If you can get an extended holiday come over and give it a go. If you dont like it you can always return to the Uk.
If your parents decide to move over then youre only 4-5 hours away.
I'm sure you're big and clever enough to look after yourself in either country.
Go on I dare you
