End Israel's Aggression Now – Lasting peace can only be built on justice
Demonstrate, Thursday 27th July 2006
Assemble at 17.00: Eleftheria Square and march on and protest outside the Israeli embassyThe Israeli offensive against Lebanon is an act of aggression against the whole Lebanese people. The Israeli state claims to be attacking an infrastructure of terror, but attacks on bridges, roads, airports, TV and Radio stations and ships are cutting the country into pieces, threatening to create a disastrous situations by impeding the transportation of food and medicines, and terrorizing everyone. Besides the hundreds killed and injured, thousands of people are fleeing the country, and thousands of people are fleeing from the areas where the bombing is heaviest into central Beirut. In the meantime in Gaza and other parts of Palestine the Israeli army continues its brutal attacks on the infrastructure, government buildings, on houses and killing civilian people.
We, the undersigned, appalled and horrified by horrific war we demand with the rest of the whole world:
• Stop the brutal policy of war, lasting peace can only be built on justice.
• Stop the war on Lebanon and Palestine.
• Withdrawal of the Israeli army from the Gaza and all occupied territories of Palestine.
• An independent Palestinian state.
• Release all the prisoners kept in Israeli jails without being charged.
• The international community, including the UN and the European Union, must take all necessary measures to stop the Israeli aggression.
• The international community, especially the UN, should press for and facilitate the evacuation of refugees to other EU member states and open immediately routes for humanitarian aid.
• The Council of the European Union must declare the existence of a mass influx of displaced persons from Lebanon and Palestine and take an immediate decision to grand temporary protection to these people.
• The EU must revoke its decision for cutting the Fund Aid to the Palestinian people.
• The EU must declare Lebanon and the routes to Syria as a war zone so that protection of Lebanese and other refugees can be effected.
• The Cyprus government must stop the facilitations granted to Britain, USA and Israel and other allies that support the war.
• The Cyprus government must provide temporary residence permit to Lebanese and Palestinian refugees, which will entail the basic rights to housing, welfare benefit and health care.
Greek and Turkish Cypriots, Arab, Lebanese and Palestinian activists will participate in the demo. The above joint declaration and call for the demo co-sign the following organizations: Press Workers’ Trade Union (Basın-Sen), Turkish Cypriot Teachers’ Trade Union (KTOS), Workers Democracy, Federation of Environ. & Ecological Organizations, Hands Across Divide, Follow the Women, United Democrat Youth (ONED), ΥΚΡ Youth (New Cyprus Party), BKP Youth Branch (United Cyprus Party), Baraka Cultural Centre.
