Why Paris ?? and what about Athens ?

The difference in Paris is we are use to it, its just normal, but in Cyprus they are all alone on the road in their mind. Sorry for my english
Its a bit similar sometimes, maybe because we are all human.

I love Cyprus, and especially one person  i hate the duty system.

But i like the yaya/papou they were the best generation in cyprus, the young are a bit crazy before they go in London to discover what means the life and when they go back they re nice. I dont put everbody in the same basket but for about 15 young i know that as worked so well.

Hey blondophile, and welcome!! :) I was attempting to show that Cyprus is not the only country in europe where the driving can be quite dangerous, sorry If i offended you! I loved Paris when I went, it's just the driving, like in Cyprus, wasn't that 'safe'...

Peace! :)

I agree on the driving. The why people park and follow so closely is unbelievable. Also, last summer was my first visit to the island and I was expecting a unique Mediterranean ancient county. I did find alot of that but I found a Cyprus that seems as if it is abandoning its uniqueness in order to fit into some European model of modernity. I found alot people warm but as does exist in all countries, Cyprus has many conceited and arrogant people. Also, I would not want to be a Southeast Asian on the island.

Paris driving is for parisian even all the people in the suburbs dont take their car to go in paris they choose the metro, its faster.
Like for the right priority they respect just in the round about, because in paris its priority to the one who enter. But they never respect for someone who arrive from a street a right, in cyprus its different they both stop and the biggest car go in first

I am a retired Brit, lived and worked in Cyprus for a total of fifteen years between 1962 - 1992. My wife and I retired here on a permanent basis in 2003, live in a 250 year old village house, embedded in the Cypriot community - we love it. BUT! As the Cypriots have become more wealthy and 'westernised', I am sad to say that they have cared less and less for their environment! Everywhere is rubbish - community tips are provided but few use them - most of the rubbish being dumped en-route to the tip! During all the years I worked and lived here I ran and hiked thousands of miles over the island, and continue to do the same today, mostly following goat tracks and the 'bondu' is littered with thousands of cars, bikes, fridges, w'machines, building waste and suchlike, simply dumped! The start of the hunting season is the worst; I have seen what is needed on that first weekend of the so-called 'hunting season' - a truck, two men, two or more guns, two or more dogs, local whisky, money to buy what they 'shot' and, a load of rubbish to dump on their way. Look at the rear of most Cypriot gardens and you can roughly judge how long the occupants have lived there simply by the age of the junk piled here and there. Old vehicles are just left anywhere. My assessment of Cypriot vehicle users is that 'driving is to a homebred Cypriot as is Ballet dancing is to a Sumo Wrestler'. Having travelled widely, it is my belief that, excepting certain countries of the so-called third world, the greater majority of Cypriots are the worst dangerous users of vehicles on the planet - drivers they are not. Cruelty to animals continues to this very day all over the island. But, that said, my wife and I love the island, our village, the greater majority of Cypriots (including charlies!), feeling of security, the sun, sea and of course the 'fresh air'.....

What I like about Cyprus are its many contradictions and taboos.

I remember a conversation I had with a woman in her thirties who said she'd never live with a man without being married because her parents wouldn't accept it.

It was at 3am in a nightclub, and she was drinking quite heavily :)

As long as her parents didn't know, it was ok. I found it interesting because in all other ways, she was an independent, working woman.

There is nothing more important than family here, yet there is a big prevalence of cabarets and broken marriages because men persistently cheat on their wives with cabaret dancers.

The weather - sunny on one side of the street, raining on the other.

The people - haunted by the ghosts of the past, but tenacious and determined to make a better future.

reportfrom cyprus , the foundations of our western world civilization and culture are based on the strong principles that underpin family life . I have always believed that no one owns his / her life , but that when your life and your actions affect your loved ones , then you do not have the divine right to do as you please , whether is taking drugs , committing illegal acts or indulging in any activity likely to have a profound affect on your loved ones.
Selfishness is the reason that so many marriages break down because people simply excuse their behaviour by simply saying is my life and I can do what I want where in fact the main reason is an emotional disturbance misconstrued as love , lust most likely . No one on this planet owns life.I most certainly do not own my life because actions that I take do have either a negative or a positive affect on my loved ones.
Ps . still read your paper , you are doing a good job.
