I have to say, the driving is pretty bad, but when I went to Paris I found it a lot worse! The only way someone would allow you to cross the road would be at a Zebra crossing, and when the light went green, whether you were across the road or not they'd speed off!! It was scary!! :)

What do I think about Cyprus?

well, yes the driving is pretty bad, yes people can be quite superficial, well the young, yes some girls do cake themselves in make up :), yes some people can be 'suspicios' of people who aren't Cypriot....But generally, their kind and caring people, who a put their familly above anything else, who's philosophy in life is "Enjoy yourself" but work hard in the process, who love eating, dancing, singing etc, who are very loyal, etc...So I reckon the good balances out the Bad....:)

On the way they treat people who aren't Cypriot, they're not really used to "other" people living in cyprus, of course people are wary about what they don't know, it's like when migrants first came to the UK 50 odd years ago, people were very wary of them, but mostly the migrants intergrated, whilst still holding on to their own values, so now things aren't so bad.....I think things will deff get better now that Cyprus is part of the EU, but come, is Cyprus all that bad???

Thats my opinion anyway! :)

Cypriots are in general nice people to know....

Like every race they have their good bad and ugly, some think its normal to rip off/overcharge a non-cypriot, but I am sure brits rip off foreigners as well...

The reason I love cyprus, its probably one of the safest countries with one of the lowest crime rates around..

If you exclude prostitution from the crime figures that is

lol

well when I got back home to Sydney and started work - I was so sad to be at a train station everymorning with the same people day in and out and no one
and I mean no one will say 'Hello' or 'Good morning' and acknowledge you so I guess its the same all over the place.......
living in Larnaca I loved that small community feeling.......I was at red lights once and a little old lady tapped my window and asked if I could drop her off down the road
that was too cute!
you would never get that happening in a large city/country

In a way im happy to hear that it wasnt just me having a hard time in Cyprus - but I do miss it somedays but happy with my life here in Australia.

How about I pitch in...

Cyprus..hmm.. I've been here all my life, hardly ever left even for a holiday (been to Greece twice and thats it) so you could say I've been stuck here quite a while..

First of all, its a beautiful island, nice weather and gorgeous places to visit, BUT the people who live in it dont see that..they think Hawaii or Bora-Bora are the only exotic places out there..this is wrong!
The locals (GC), are friendly and kind but, and this is a really big but, they are extremely jealous and immitate each other to an extend that it becomes stupid!

Cyprus is very narrow-minded. It either THIS or THAT..nothing in between. This applies to alot of things...from habits, cultural status, behaviors e.t.c.

Driving... somebody needs to fire all the driving examinators!!! (no offence if any in here..)

Money..i'd say its a medium-to expensive place to live..wages are really low considering the living costs..

Goverment... they changed the law, and all local working students making <5,000 per year dont get the 1,500 student bonus..even if they make one pound more than 5,000 they wont give it to you.. but those studying abroad go unharmed...daddy pays their tuition fees and sends them money every month..need i say more?

In short... it needs a lot of work done soon!!! Cypriots need to open up to new things... I hate the idea of having to leave my country just because I dont fit in...being different here means being pointed at..thats very lame!

I got family in Sydney and they are begging me to move over... I'm begging the Cypriots to make me say NO!

Earthling I believe the arrogant people you dislike must be those English who seem to think they know best and look down with disdain on the "Locals". Shame on you if you think that way of your host nation - instead of thinking it is a beautiful island get to know the Cypriots because they are the warmest nation I have met. Through personal circumstances I came back to the UK to live - it is another beautiful country but normally we don't get the weather to enjoy all the scenery.
In Cyprus jobs got down relatively quickly, over here it can be much longer waiting for service people for things needing to be done in the home.
