How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Yes we know that these other people are the Europeans...and the same will apply to them

Non-Europeans have and are also buying land in the north. They see it as a sound investment as the likelihood of us ever finding a solution is non-exsistent.

What are you talking about...on one hand you set up a commission for compensation and giving homes back, as to satisfy the ECHR and on the other hand you are selling their properties to foreigners...Have you got any idea as to how underhanded this sounds?...You are making a mockery out of everyone...

The commission was set up to provide local remedy prior to going to ECHR, 2 GC have already got their land back and others have taken cash settlements. Do you now not want this solution? Please make up your minds.

The sooner people apply to the commission the sooner they will get their land bank or compensation the fact that sales continue only means that less GCs will have the option of getting their land back but will have to settle for financial compensation. So get your fingers out and either find a solution or apply to the property commission.

You want more money put your hand up and ask Turkey...They have been doing it from day one..What has changed the last two years?...Allow me to tell you, and this exactly why Dektash, didn't want the borders opened...Because the TC took one look at the South and said what the hell is going here, we have been cheated the last 32 years...What can I say you had a great leader...So now you are screaming that the South is holding you hostage...

We have our hand out no worries to Turkey, EU, UK and USA. The north will develop like it or not the only thing we will remember in 50 years time is how the GC side did everything within their means to keep us under isolation and economically weaker just in case we do not want a solution mentality.

My personal thought is that the damage is done regardless as to what the judgement will be from the British courts...For one the decision won't be final, and there will be appeals from the side that looses the hearing...The more it goes the more it gets highlighted that the properties in question are sold with out titles...and the sellers are immune from prosecution...And in this case would you trust any seller with your life long savings?

The you have nothing to worry about, or do you??

Are you tellingl me that you subscribe to the thought that thought the GC would have voted for the Annan plan?...Blind Freddy could see the referandum would have been voted down before it went up for vote...YOu think Turkey didn't know that?...The question is why did Turkey wasted this opportunity for an everlasting peace...Not mentioning that Erdogan comes out of the negotiations saying I got everything I asked for...But hang on, to get everything you want some will miss out...

The plan was the only thing put before us and we voted yes you voted no. Does this mean we are less for a soşution that you are? and that we shoudl be asking to be excused for voting yes. Its the no voters that shoud be working hard to get a new plan on the table. Doesnt seem that way to me all the are doing is making excuses for why they voted the UN plan down.

So the way I see it Turkey is holding the TC for ransom and is contriuting to your isolation...maybe you should be a bit more critical and demanding more of the Turkish government...What have you done to voice your concerns...

Turkey provides the TRNC with financial and moral support, plus security and you call this ransom??? We have opened the borders, arranged the biggest protest in the world, gotten rid of Denktas, vote a new leader and voted yes to reunificiation, what have you done???

well. whatever will be the decision there are going to be appeals and i guess that ECHR will have the last word. Do TC have a plan B in case that there is unification? What will happen with those houses?

There is also the other way around, find where this family leaves, i heard near Brighton, and pay a visit to their house! It will interesting! Personally i would ask from a local real estate agent to sale to me their house.

Unification=return of property or financial compensation

The have been harrassed by your crazy lawyer already so it wouldnt be anything new being threatened or harrassed in the Uk as well they are use to it by now.

Do the GC have a plan B for if they lose and appeals take another 5 years?? with an unknown outcome?

you call this a sound investment? being dragged to courts?...yeah thats a good one....

what are you talking about...you are making a mockery of the whole system....
settling in one and selling in the other...
Ok lets say all GC apply tommorrow to the commission in the North... would the selling stop?...According to you they will stop...You will still be isolated, so what excuses are you gonna come up with and what are you gonna be selling then?...TC homes? and then live in tents or something?

We have our hand out no worries to Turkey, EU, UK and USA. The north will develop like it or not the only thing we will remember in 50 years time is how the GC side did everything within their means to keep us under isolation and economically weaker just in case we do not want a solution mentality.

Viewpoint you had more development the last two years than the last 30 years...Can you ask your self how this came about? and who contributed to this development the most?...The only people that its in their best interest for you to develop is your compatriots...Turkey, UK EU and USA did sweet FA for you guys the last 30 years...

The you have nothing to worry about, or do you??

Well you don't have to worry about me, I have no ties, no property or claims what so ever....extremely doubtfull of returning too...So as you can see nothing to worry about...

Ever heard of the expression it requires 2 to tango, or if not succed once try again?...But I remember Talat saying a while ago changes of the Annan plan are a non starter...Then 2 years later he says he is prepared to negotiate from scratch...Then Turkey bodyslams him on the canvas...I mean what the hell get your act together and tell us with the hell is in charge...and I am living the generals wants out of this...Can you point me to the right person that has the power to negotiate?...Talat or Erdogan of Ozcock?...Who is it?

Turkey provides the TRNC with financial and moral support, plus security and you call this ransom??? We have opened the borders, arranged the biggest protest in the world, gotten rid of Denktas, vote a new leader and voted yes to reunificiation, what have you done???

It took 30 years to finally wake up, I am sure you could wait a few more years for a solution...why the hurry?...could it be that you looking at the South could feel a bit jealous, and you want it now?...I would...I would have felt cheated that all these years, 30 to be exact...
What has the south done for you guys?...Now you are being a bit ungratefull here...YOur standard of living has doubled the last 2 years...Who do you think contributed the most here Viewpoint...I don't think Turkey did enough for you guys...She gave you the same system she had along with the same standard of living...I am surpriced you do not see this...

Have I missed something, or is there the chance that if the Orams lose their appeal case then the tables may be turned further. Could Turkish Cypriots that owned land in the south before being forced out be able to sue in the UK courts under legal precedent and have the decision upheld in the Greek Cypriot courts?

In this case the Greek Cypriots would stand to lose a lot more as the majority of people occupying exchange land would be EU citizens or state, whereas only a small percentage of those occupying exchange land in the North are EU citizens. The decision of whether to uphold a UK judgement in a Greek court may not rest in the hands of the Greeks if it is enforced by the Euro court.

Welcome to the forum , but with all due respect the T/Cs were not as you say forced out , they were taken out by the Turkish army.
"""Could Turkish Cypriots that owned land in the south before being forced out be able to sue in the UK courts under legal precedent and have the decision """

Can you clarify the following , I read it 3 times but still cant understand it:

""In this case the Greek Cypriots would stand to lose a lot more as the majority of people occupying exchange land would be EU citizens or state, whereas only a small percentage of those occupying exchange land in the North are EU citizens. The decision of whether to uphold a UK judgement in a Greek court may not rest in the hands of the Greeks if it is enforced by the Euro court.

My understanding was that Apostolides argument was that he had to leave his land or risk persecution. This argument could be applied to Turkish Cypriots that owned land in the South, whether they had help in leaving or fled.

All Greek Cypriots are EU citizens and a judgment from a UK court could be upheld against them in their native Greek Cyprus to seize their assets (the exchange land). Similarly for exchange land used by the Greek (Cypriot) state. A judgement from any EU court could not be upheld against Turkish Cypriots and non-EU exchange 'landowners' in the north unless they have assets in EU countries.

What is this "exchange " land phraseology , the matter is simple .The G/C owned land is been sold to whoever wants to pay the asking price. The T/C owned land in Cyprus is not for sale . Cyprus is known internationally as CYPRUS , Not Greek Cyprus.
Frankly my dear your not making much sense.

So, to clarify, the land in the South of Cyprus that was owned by the Turkish Cypriots prior to 1974 is lying untouched since then, or has someone made use of that land?

If someone (or a state) has made use of that land, then I cannot see a reason why a Turkish Cypriot should not sue for some compensation in the same way that Apostolides has done.
