Cherie defends ‘home snatchers’

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

by hirind cherie blair , the orams (homebyers groupp etc) have simply raised the stakes higher.
in the case they loose , that will be a heavy propaganda blow.
at the end of the day , it might turn boomerang for the orams.

It might, but somehow with that old saying "an englishmans home is his castle" looming in the minds of the english I doubt very much the Orams will lose. A unbiased european court will be the best way for GC's to obtain their properties back and / or compensation.I dont think the GCs thought this through enough and the fact that they were refused an adjournment the other day shows how unconfidant their legal team is.

viewpoint says. """So you don't think she has the freedom or the right to represent who she wishes? isn't that discriminating based on who she married to? ""

It is not just any one that she is married to. It is the British Prime Minister.
Any way at least she is making quite a few people happy in their dreams that the British Judicial System willl find for the Orams and endorse the sale of property taken by force by a foreign power in Cyprus. She will be made a laughing stock and mark my words. The British courts are independent from the government and they will judge this case on legal merits only. Since the courts do not recognise the legality of OCCUPIED CYPRUS , IT IS DOUBTFUL THAT THEY WILL RECOGNISE A CONTRACT OF SALE ENACTED IN "TRNC"

what ever the courts say , I am pretty sure it won't be the final decision...there will be appeals upon appeals till kingdom come...

This case will never reach a clear cut decision in a short time...so why speculate one way or another...One thing is for sure the Orams will suffer along the way...and with constant heartache inside them, how hell are they going to enjoy their remaining life, not alone their house...I think the Orams already lost...

and the land in the North won't rise on price due to the appeals...

Thats what I said, but because I also said that maybe it is not a good idea you said I am discriminating against her. You read what I write and you only digest the part that suits you.
I never said she doesnt have the right to take up any case she wants. Actually, I believe I did say the opposite. But she and every one of us have to realize and admit that since her husband is the leader of the country she practices in, she cant fancy herself as just another lawyer, because she is not. Once she takes up political cases, that action carries a little bit of political weight just BECAUSE she is the PM's wife. So, what I was saying, in the posting that you ended up calling me basically a discriminator for, is that she does have the right to take any case she wants; maybe she should just use a bit more common sense when those case are political given who her husband is-no matter who's side she is taking.

If Laura Bush was a lawyer and she represented any one of the soldiers that were accused of rape in Iraq that would have been inapropriate.
If Laura Bush was a Laywer and she were hired to represent Osama Bin Laden, it would have been inappropriate. That's just how it is.

Its you that is attaching so much importance to her being married to the british PM, Im sure the English judicial system will accept her as just another lawyer arguing her clients viewpoint and trying to win.

Laura Bush can represent the devil if that is what she wishes to do, she should have the freedom to do so just like anyone else and not be discriminated against just because of who she is married to.

Your noses are out of joint because Cherie Booths involvement makes the case that more high profile, but you dont realize this is what the law breaking lawyer Coundounas is after to scare off potential buyers. Did he calculate that just this type of publicity if the case is lost will have totally the opposite effect and buyers will flock to buy before prices sky rocket.

This is not the way to go about things all this effort shoudl have been channelled into get your leaders to negotiate with us a comprehensive solution to stop building on disputed land. These types of cases even if decision goes your way will only drive our communities further apart and if you are unable to see this then your need to get a reality check as soon as possible.

your leaders to negotiate with us

I don't think Talat is allowed to negotiate going to the toilet not alone negotiate a settlement... ...are you kidding me?

There is something wrong when you insist that Talat has the power to negotiate...I think this is pretty well established as a fact...

goes your way will only drive our communities further apart

I don't buy into that because for there to be a solution the property issue is number one...You can't have a property commision for compensation/return of land and on the other hand selling the properties...

Don't you realise this makes a mockery of your system?...Somehow I do not think this is what the ECHR had in mind...

We have discussed this issue in the past and the British courts are not being asked to judge whether the "RoC" courts judgement was correct or not they will decide if it can be inforced in the UK and thus sieze the Orams property in Hove UK. This is the issue and the ides is that if ruled in your favor the Orams will not be able to sell their property in the UK unless they pay the fines and carry out the judgement made by your courts in the south. If the decision goes the other way and ruled as not enforciable or is placed on the shelf until a solution is found you will witness a sudden surge of further interest in buying property in the TRNC.

I don't think so VP...What ever the decision will be, there will be appeals and then move on to the EU courts...There will be no short time solution...with appeals pending this will stop the selling because more will join the orams in these courts...Can you imagine if more people are sued?

Do you think it will be worth investing in North Cyprus if you could be sued at a drop of a hat?...what kind of life would that be?
