So what does everyone think about all the Americans about to be shipped from Lebanon to Cyprus?

Is that civilians or military being shipped over? What is this in aid of??

Few years ago on holiday in Larnaca, this was during the Gulf war, a whole platoon stopped overnight at the hotel where I was staying before they were to go to Iraq. They were just boys, very well behaved, very friendly and very disciplined. It was scorching hot yet they still had to stay in their heavy duty uniform. Was a sad sight as you knew most of them going will not make it back.

At lunch, their tables were reserved leaving very limited seating space. One small section invited me over to their table to join them as the seating was very limited. They were friendly and ever so polite, calling me sir all the time. After lunch a few of them were about to start throwing a ball around on the beach to kill some time, but first they asked everyone around them sitting on the sun loungers if it was ok with them.

If that is what is coming to Cyprus, then I welcome them with open arms.

Snad, I too have missed whatever it is!

Hazza,

Thanks for your nice post. I am American, and I am well aware of the stereotype of the ugly American abroad - civilian or military. Your words made me feel proud.

The war in Lebanon? People are evacuated from there and Cyprus is used as transit place.

It depends on what they think about the occupation of Cyprus by Turkey ;)

You mean like they should be asked individually at customs and if they are not against the occupation they should be sent back

And if they are against it they can stop over

To be honest I dont think the average American would have a clue about it

Do you think the Americans that live in Lebanon support the Israeli attacks like the USA government?

Sotos
I havn't been to the Lebanon since 1982 so i cannot comment on the Americans living there now. I would reitterate my previous comment above as most of the American citizens I have met dont really have a great deal of knowledge about the politics of the middle east.
In my opinion most Americans will support their government in what ever policies it chooses to follow.
I'm not saying this is right its just what I believe.
Also I do not think that politics should enter the equation when the evacuation is being done for humanitarian reasons
