The TRNC ship that collected some evacuees was turned away at the Greek Cyp port and had to head straight for Turkey. Not even in these circumstances will the GC administration bend and I think its sad and not very good publicity for the South!

There is a reason why Cyprus authorities would have refused entry to port of a vessel not legally registered .This vessel would not have been covered by international protocols required by the governing authorities of all proper Nation states. The Cyprus authorities acted correctly within internationally accepted laws.
Do not forget that the creator of the "TRNC" is refusing to recognise a nation that all other world nations are recognising .

However, I do not think these people should be allowed to automatically think they can stay for a long time but I haven't seen any who are intending to do this.

In the late 1970's and 1980's when the Lebanons civil war was at its height and the Israeli's and Palestinians were using the country as a battlefield many Lebanese and other foreign nationals fled the country arriving in Cyprus as refugees.
On humaniterian grounds the government of President Kyprianou granted those refugees with no where else to go permission to stay in Cyprus, the others, mostly French nationals used Cyprus as a transit point to return to their mother country.

The first Lebanese refugees to arrive were the very wealthy who had little problem as you would expect in either staying on in Cyprus or seeking refuge elswhere. The refugees who arrived later had little or no financial means of supporting themselves and no alternative but to stay on in Cyprus until it was safe to return home or alternatively find work in another country that would allow them in.

The people who are coming out of Lebanon now are the lucky ones who are either ex-pats or holders of dual nationality, if the crap continues in the Lebanon expect to see many more Lebanese seeking asylum in Cyprus and elswhere.

americans are more than welcome, as much as everyone else but they are pulling some strings they really shouldnt have.
their "your welcome" was CNN accusing cyprus for profiteering (the only ones that did). dont know what for but whatever. dont get me wrong here, i live in the US and its great, but sometimes they should put their foot where their mouth is.

Uh like they have any place to accuse anyone. Their own government was making its citizens sign promisory notes and they have the nerve to accuse other countries...
