Probationary period, notice period and penalities..

Postby Ivanka » Fri Jul 14, 2006 2:15 pm

Dear all,
Could you tell me someone waht is normally probationary period and notice period in the Cyprus?
I have 3 months notice period and 1 year probationary and I think, that it is very long...

About penalities: I have 1 year probationary period, but I cannot leave the company because I have penalities if the service is less then 2 years. Is it in accordance with cypriot labour law?

I have some doubts..
Please tell me if I am sure, that it is no normal
Thanks a lot

I think it is in contrariety with EU law, I find some law about free migration in the EU. I have different working conditions from native people. I think if you mean that it is no normal I can denounce the contract.
But I don't know if it will be better in other employer...I don't know what is normal for Cyprus.

For Snad: I'm working for pharmaceutical company, but I'm not Cypriot. I'm Czech.

If you have proofread a contract and signed it I dont know how you can get out of it. Probationary periods and all that covered by contracts might not be reversible. You should talk to a lawyer.

I am sorry your unhappy Ivanka, and you are in the EU, but also you are a woman and most from your country and russia have been considered for years in Cyprus as being cabaret artists and prostitutes, and that mentallity still stands, also they fear intelligent women, and will take advantage anyway they can. I really hope you find some way out of the situation, and if you need support i am sure we on here will give you all we can. I know of a woman lawyer who is english called Marion Carter, even if this is not her field she can direct you to someone who can help, her number is 99956339, and tell her that Lesley in Pafos who use to be on paphos tv reccommended you to her...

Earthling: Thank you very much.
But I'm working in the pharmaceutical company with my boyfriend (he is as Czech as me) and he has the similar contract like me. We have University degree in Chemistry field both. In Chemistry is very difficult to find the job in the Czech Republic so we have taken the job opportunities in the Cyprus.

The job offer was different then our contracts nowdays...of course.
I'll try to contact the lawyer but I'm not sure if it is right lawyer for problems between employer and emploee.
However, thanks a lot.

Hi all,
the main problem is we've signed contract because we wanted to go to Cyprus and was affraid to lose this chance.
I think we're going to leave that company anyhow.
