Moving to Cyprus.... Decisions Decisions

Postby newbie2cyprus » Thu Jul 13, 2006 2:43 pm

Hi there, I'm new to this site. :D

I'm currently a uni student in London who is about to begin her final year in September. I'm considering applying for a graduate trainee accountant position in Cyprus in which case I will be living there for the next three years. The firms I'm considering applying to are the Big 4 firms eg PwC, Deloitte and Ernst & Young. I have a few questions which I would be gratful for your input.

1. Which city is better for an british expatriate like me - Limassol or Nicosia?
2. Does anyone know anything about the big 4 firms in Cyprus?
3. Is Cyprus an expensive place to live?

Any advice will help. Look forward to hearing from you. Thanks

Limassol

2. Does anyone know anything about the big 4 firms in Cyprus?

I know than in PWC they work their asses off. They work a lot of overtime and most of it is not paid. Maybe the rest are the same also.

3. Is Cyprus an expensive place to live?

No, but salaries are lower also. Will you get the same salary in PWC UK and PWC Cyprus? If you will and you don't mind the overtimes then Cyprus will be a good place for you ;)

Thanks very much for that info. :) I now have alot of stuff to think about. Its more likely that I would be paid Cypriot money as it would be PwC Cyprus that would be employing me rather than UK. I'm not sure about the unpaid overtime but I do like the idea of relocating to Cyprus for a while!

Znother idea is thinking about moving to Larnaca, 30 mins drive to Nicosia and 45 mins drive to Limassol. Get the best of both worlds. Larnaca is the quieter of the three.

Hi newbie2cyprus

I have moved to Nicosia 4 months ago , I would say as a british expat bets to live on the coast as is very lonely if you donlt know anyone however if you work for a big firm then I am sure you will make friends. PWC are very big here so good firm to get into. Standard of living quite expensive make sure you get them to pay the rent and throw in gym memebership. I am a memeber of the Hiltom health club

Hope this helps
