But of course all super powers have a duty to look after their interests, it goes without saying.And I do accept that our successive governments , in the ROC, have been less than friendly to the Anglo -Americans ., A MASSIVE MISTAKE WITH OUR FOREIGN POLICY. Our politicians have shown no foresight and have made friends with the nobodies of this world , Cuba is a good example. Turkey has made friends and build alliances with the powerful of this world, including Israel .Not us , we adore the underdogs and follow Greece , the nation that supports any one who has a grudge against the States.

Can I ask you if you think that Turkey would have invaded our island had the Americans been given bases when they requested them fro Makarios, not on your Nelie mate , the yanks would not have allowed it.
As far as you China comments , may I suggest you grow up a little and look at China's human rights records. If the Cypriots prefer the Chinese to the Americas is because they are misguided , misinformed and as always the americanico daxtilo is perched up their rear passage. the fact that china has a bad human rights record that doesnt necessarily mean that their policies will be bad to the world. that doesnt mean that their policies will be good either.
we can only speculate what they might or might not do.
what we know today , is that china with all its bad human rights record , is not the country currently blocking a SC resolution to stop the killing of civilians in lebanon. it is the great western country .

Israel is targeting Hezbollah not civilians . In war civilians are the innocent victims of war ,and who started it , was it not the braves of Gods-party who entered Israel killed 6 and captured 2 .I bet they are regretting this by now . As for China , I have been there and was very careful not to express any views , it was a business trip.I genuinely like the Chinese but I detest their devotion to the communist ideals that they still cherish.
May be when they become as powerful as America they will change , but would you want the Chinese to rule the world , they cant even speak English and Chinese is a very hard language to learn .

I agree with Miltiades that there is a massive mistake with the RoC foreign policy...Its an argument that I have with my dad, he is 78 btw...To this day he hates the yanks...Never learned the real art of politics...and as I see it, this is what keeps behind the eight ball...

Also yes if the RoC gave bases to the yanks when they requested them, I don't believe Turkey would have invaded...The RoC probably would have been part of NATO...No NATO country invaded another NATO country...

As a person that has been travelling to China for the last 20 years, and would like very much to live there, I can tell you that today, China is a different county from 50 years ago, and China in 50 years will be different country to what it is today...If thats enough to challenge the US I don't know...

doesnt it make you wonder that all the states in the world (besides the US) are asking for a cease fire miltiades ? even the EU with its non-position is asking for a cease -fire . it is amazing that the US is so isolated on this one, and you dont even ask the obvious question - why ?

that is true. but as i said before tha british had bases , and only saved us once. besides , if you take greece, they had their bases , and the US coopearated with the military dictatorship. nothing can guarantee us that they wouldnt support the overthrwing of makarios.

The more Miltiades speaks, the more he is showing his distaste to people of colour and culture who are not in his "Western Civilization" and those that belong to religions, other than Christianity. It's somewhat strange, to someone who does not believe in God and religion, ( same for me ). How he can accept the killings of innocent by Israeli forces indiscriminately with their tanks and air force, and all Miltiades can say is, well,look who started it. Using this logic, then he should stop complaining about Turkey invading Cyprus. This conflict in the Middle East will be widen to draw in Syria and Iran, which is the main objection here. This serves the NeoCons in the States, to start another war before the Mid Term elections in November. Don't be surprised, when a American jet painted with Iranian colours is used to bomb a city in Israel and a US military base in Iraq, to use it as a reason to go after them.

As much as Miltiades believes, that after 911, the USA has every right to go after who ever it wants in the Middle East. I provided a site few days ago for him to read, that the attack on Iraq was planned back in 1997, and not in 2003. You forgot something Miltiades, apart from Elvis etc etc The good old USA also showed us FIRST hand what a nuclear bomb does to cilvilians - remember Japan? WOW!! God help us and save us from any more of their exports. The Israelis have proved a point, they should stop NOW! Its against international law to destroy infastructures like water and electricity, the poor civilians that escape the bombing will no doubt suffer terribly in other ways from disease - so well done Israel.

I dont think I insulted the Chinese , I dislike the communist philosophy I have anit deleted any part of the Chinese History , but still maintain that the world would be a sorry state if ever the Chinese became the predominant super power replacing America.
Kikapu , I do not deferentiate people from the colour of their skin , or from their religious beliefs. I do however make a distinction between cultures and Im quite comforatble to be called a culturist , a word that as yet has not entered the dictionary. I believe in the culture of the Westernrn world , I dont condone marriages betwween adults and children as young as 10 years old , I beleive in freedom of speech and expresion of views on any subject including religion. I beleive in the laws that prohibit cruelty to children and prohibit child labour. I beleive that it is abhorently wrong for Indian children sold to the Middle East in order that they please their masters and win camel races for them while strapped on to the camel .
I despice the system that allows thousands of children to live and sleep in railway stations , the system that separates people according to their cast. I dont differentiate between the poor and the rich , only cultures.
