Talat fury as refugee takes property case to UK

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Just Wandered In

Postby Alikospah » Tue Dec 20, 2005 10:46 pm

Its just one of those computer things. I found the story about the Cypriot guy wanting compensation for his land and that Britain's PM's wife is concerning herself with it, so got curious and did a search. I wound up here and joined in. Much fresher than hurricanes and our problems.
It does seem the Orams took advantage of a situation and that the PM's wife is involving herself is a bit much I think. The Orams took a gamble, they had to have known there was a risk and now they have to face up to the risk.
It is terrible that in a place, any place, someone can be forced out of their familial home and have to turn to a world court to get some kind of compensation. Why the Turks had to have half of Cyprus is something I don't understand. How can they defend half an island miles away from their own land? What happens when the Greeks decide they will take it back? Will we then have Turks appealing to the EU courts for satisfaction?
Some crazy stuff out there for sure.

Try doing some research into why the Turkish Cypriots took 37% of the island which also belongs to them as much as Greek Cypriots.

Try; http://www.cyprus-conflict.net/

Aliko...
Cyprus is not as far away from Turkey as you think. And there are historical and political reasons why Turkey (and Greece in the past) wanted a piece of it.Sometimes I wish we were on the other side of the world from Greece and Turkey, and spoke our own language instead of Greek and Turkish. If you stick around and keep asking questions you will soon see what the problem is all about.i hope you do,because you will be like a newborn baby wanting to know how everything works, but without our prejudices. You might teach us a thing or two.

It is true I don't understand the dispute but then history is written by the victors. This fuss probably goes back centuries. What it is really about is greed, to the victor go the spoils.

I'm not much of a cynic but I've seen that man cannot make peace. What burns me the most is Blair stepping into it. Is Cyprus still a British possession?

If we could live together the world would be a better place, we all know that. But the "get" and "take" is everywhere seems like.

Glad to see you are still around Aliko...
The Cyprus problem is the result of Turkish and Greek nationalism manipulated by the British colonialist policies.Cyprus is like a baby that everyone wants a piece of,so we have been torn apart. My belief now is that we(Cypriots) must stop blaming the past history and solve the problem ourselves. For that some miracles have to happen. The USA,UK,Turkey and Greece have to leave us alone, and tell us to get on with living together peacefully, after having put in place a fair and just system of course.Blair is involved because the UK is one of the 3 guarantor powers (together with turkey and greece) as specified by the 1960 agreement to set up the Republic of Cyprus.Britain also has two military bases on cyprus. We have two options as far as I see:to forge a unique cypriot identity and unite Cyprus,or persist with our present preoccupations and divide the island hence creating a perpetual conflict situation out of which only the Cypriotswill come out as losers.Unfortunately knowingly or unknowingly we seem to be following the second option.
