HR

Postby vicks » Tue Jul 11, 2006 1:36 pm

Hi everyone-

I currently work in HR (Human Resources) in Athens, Greece and I am interested in working abroad. Does anyone have a feeling on how developed is the HR domain in Cyprus-mainly international companies operating there with well-established HR depts..?
As I am a new user I would really much appreciate your tips!

Thanks

Welcome vicks, i cant answer your question as its a bit complex here in Cyprus, are you Greek? i ask because if you are you may do ok here, if not it will be a struggle. Most good jobs are inhouse and by that i mean they give jobs to brothers cousins etc. Its such a tiny island, and they dont appreciate or value their work force anyway, or see them as a useful asset, they are disposable. But come and try it, what have you got to lose, i had a friend who started up a company doing just this bringing in nursing staff from abroad, but after a year she closed up shop and went into something else. It wasnt viable she said, and she was English Cypriot.

Hi Vicks

I am afraid the concept of HR is unknown here; staff are regarded as 'tools' rather than 'assets'. Messrs Herzberg, Drucker and Tom Peters' hearts would have been broken had they worked here :-)

Hi-
Thanks for getting back to me. Yes, I am Greek. I am just doing a research in the Cypriot market, I am not thinking of moving and then finding a job..Are there in the island any international companies that operate? e.g. UK companies?
