Trying to track down descendants of Cypriot immigrant to US

Postby kritman » Thu Jul 06, 2006 11:37 pm

Hi all -- happily, just discovered this great forum - very fun!
I know it's a long shot, but who knows? maybe somebody will give me a hand..
A friend here in America found out that her 'pro-pappous' came from Chirokitia, Cyprus to the states in 1916! His name was Dimitris Georgiou and was probably 17 or 18 when he made the trip (his papers say that he travelled via Egypt to America..). my friend only has the paper passport with the stamp of the then British High Commissioner to allow him passage.
She knows that he had family left behind - in fact he went back (or sent money) to bring other members over as well....
That's all she knows.. She will be visiting Cyprus later in July and wanted to go to the village, but I thought maybe somebody here lives there and the name will sound familiar... ??
or, if you know of a web-site or government service that tracked these immigrants?.. any  :?:

Thanks!

thanks Snad!.. But, I guess there is nobody from Chirokitia here, who recognizes that name (and it's so common...)?

you need to look in a phone directory maybe phone cyta and ask for the persons number if they are not exdirectory then they should give it. and if its the wrong person they may be able to help you. Personally i live in paphos and have no idea where Chirokitia is... Anyway good luck in your search..
