Hello l.miss. Glad to hear your feeling well. Me? I am hot and bothered after moving from the mountains to larnaca, but I have great www connection...Hurrah!!! In answer to your question about giving up work, well it depends what you do. If you are doing a really strenuous job with lifting and carrying heavy loads then you should serously be considering giving up now. But if you are doing a job that isnt overly strenuous and you are feeling well, if you can take regular breaks to rest/sit down, all your antenatal checks show that your work is having no ill effects on you or the baby, then give up when you like. If you want to carry on for as long as possible, then I would advise that you stop at least 2-3 weeks before your due date. This will enable you to rest properly, and to gather your energy and strength for the coming birth. As for the home birth that jazzy mentions, I would love to, but alas - I cannot. I am governed by the codes of practice as set by the UK Nursing and Midwifery Council. I cannot give you a home birthing experience as much as i would like to because I would have no midwife partner (we always work in pairs as when the baby is delivered, there are two people to look after) and would not have any medical back up. I am a great believer in home birth and the normality of child birth and hate the fact that it has become so medicalised making people believe that being pregnant and delivering a baby are almost like 'illnesses' when it should be a wonderful time. Dont be afraid to attend your antenatal checks, and certainly dont be afraid to ask questions, and keep asking until you get the answers you need. Go in, and mean business. They are working for you don't forget. Its YOUR body. Its YOUR baby. If you dont understand what something means, or what someone is saying ask them to explain or say it in a different way, a way that you CAN understand. They will respect you for it. Have you been attending any antenatal classes? You can email me now if you like as my new superduper www connection is so good I can connect in a jiffy....not the 12 hours or so it took me before. Tip:- Make sure you are getting plenty of iron. Are you taking a supplement? Have you had your iron levels checked? Eat lots of iron rich foods with a healthy varied diet. The iron is stored in your body and will give you the energy you will need for the birthing, and to help counter the effects of any blood loss after delivery. Are you having your blood pressure and urine checked regularly? If you are not then do so. Hope I'm not turning into a nag here, he he. Take care. pammie x

Littlemiss, its good you are feeling well.

How weird are the elsbows and feet, I managed to hold on to the little elbow for a couple of seconds, it was like a little doorknob.

I gave up work 3 weeks before delivery date but that was the uk and it was winter so I didnt feel as knackered! also it was a desk job.
we had someone carry out a risk survey on us to cover the company I guess.
Whenever you feel ready to stop, then do so. It doesnt matter when the next person stopped. everyone feels differently and as pam said you are going to need to rest and gather strength.
Dont feel like you are weak because you feel you need to rest.

I will be happy to answer any questions also. I am a mum of 2 and know what its like.
I will be over there at End of August it would be good to meet up. How far are you from Larnaca town? I am next to ORFANIDES the big supermarket

Some one once told me your body knows what it is doing and does what it has to do. so let it get on with it.

I know this sounds really cliche but the right breathing really helps and just remember its normal what your going through. we tend to panic because we have never had to deal with this type of pain and at the time you think you are the only one that felt like that. it is completley normal.

its no worse to having a stomach bug and I found that it is only the contractions that actually hurt, when it comes to pushing, its weird the pain kind of disapears and you know its gonna finish very soon so you have this inner strength all of a sudden.

when are you due?
xx

Well Pammie, im being good and take my pregnancy vitamins and extra iron daily. Doctor tests urine and bloody pressure once a month. At 7 months how often should he be needing to see me?
About the working.... i so want to stop now!! Im so tired in this heat, its not that the job is hard its an office job but the office is hot and i do get some very awkward customers. I am finding it hard doing the job and keeping up with life you know, cleaning cooking etc. My hours are 2 - 10 and the late nights are killing me. My husband has 2 weeks off soon and i would so like to be with him to spend some quality time together before the baby, but i feel awful if i let my boss down. He thinks im staying on till the end of august, but i have had enough now. I think most women here tend till work right up until they are ready to drop, but i dont want to play any more lol. I know i could probably cope till the end of august but its no fun being tired all the time, in this heat anyone who is not pregnant wants to sleep every five mins lol.
Dont worry pammie i wouldnt want a home birth, i like the sence of security that comes with being in a hospital, just incase something was to go wrong. All i prey for is not to have to have a c section!
Jazzy im living close to ayia napa ( not in ayia napa thank god lol ) the feet and elbows are getting more and more visible every day, its truelly amazing although not comfortable when stuck under a rib lol He HE HE I was wondering the other day if he would come out with dents all over him where i poke his little feet to move them lol. all getting exciting now!

hi there L.M. How often he should be seeing you depends on how often you need to be seen. If everything is going ok, yours and baby's health is fine, then its just really about checking up that things are staying that way, and also to provide reassurance for you. Once amonth is fine. if there were any problems he/she would be seeing you more often. Usually as the pregnancy progresses, you will be asked to have more frequent checks. This is to ensure that things are going to plan, to check on the baby's position and to screen you for possible advanced pregnancy problems. Also to discuss in more detail your birth plan, your needs, wishes and expectations etc....(well in the uk it would anyway!!!) As for giving up work, Just leave!!! Tell your boss that you are feeling terribly drained, more than you ever thought you would when you first agreed to stay till august. If he/she doesnt understanding that, then tough! Just pat your bump, walk away and say byeeee and think no more about it. How would they manage if for any reason, you HAD to stop working now? They will manage without you, dont worry. I am a real advocate for home births but I wont jump on my soap box and extoll the virtues to you, as its not an option in your case anyway (sadly). Glad to hear your taking all your supplements though L.M. Are you going to any antenatal classes? Stay well, pammie.

Good luck L.M. Where are you going for the actual delivery? Is it a private hospital or a state one? They do run antenatal classes here, the ones that I have heard about are in stores, usually baby clothes/equipment stores. (I wonder why lol). Have you asked your Dr if he knows of any classes in English in your area? I know its a long shot, but it does not hurt to ask. Or even getting in touch with the military base. They do have midwives there and may allow you to join in with the classes they offer the service wives. Failing that, I would be happy for us to meet up sometime and go through things with you. Let me know how you get on today. Will check again later. God God, this what living in the Australian outback must be like, medical care and advice by internet....Rediculous when you think that this is Europe..... sheesh!

Hi Pammie, went to doc today all is well, baby is head down, and looking a bit big for my dates. He told me to have my bag packed now. We went through a few worries i had ie c section. He said i look healthy and im not too small so cant see a reason why i cant have a natural birth. I told him the roumers i heard about the hospital being a fan of c sections. He said years ago girls would come in and ask for one and he would turn them away cos he thinks its wrong to have one through choice and not a medical cause. Now he does them if requested cos he was loosing all his patients! He went through all the births he had done last year and he certainly did more natural births than c sections. Im so relieved! These greek girls are to posh to push by the looks of it and its giving the docs a bad name with us who dont mind a sweaty pushing labor. I feel so much better after asking him more questions today ( good old mum helped ). He has signed a form to say i can stop work as from tomorrow!!! Yey!!!!! I will see the week out tho, then relax for the rest of the time. Who knows maybe baby george will put in an early appearance.
God i have been relying on the internet for advice for the past seven months, thank god for modern technology! My doc said dont worry about classes they will help me there on the day and he has over 20 yrs experience and to trust him he told me to read up on what to expect and i will be very safe in his hands. God i must of caught him in a good mood today or he saw i was starting to panic cos he really had a good chat with me. The poor buggers outside waiting to see him were there for an hour lol. Happy bunny today!!!

Wahooooo. I am so pleased for you L.M. I am really glad you are feeling reassured. Feeling confident that you can do it is a good way to go into battle. The offer still stands though, have a think about it and let me know. Pammie x
