God every time i have been put on a drip here i have ended up with a blood clot in that area they didnt believe me when i said the drip didnt feel right, im no nurse but worked in the care industry for six years i know how to care for ppl, and i feel some of the nurses here havent a clue. Maybe us british have been spoilt with the good practice and laws in the uk. She even told me to stop being a baby when she put the antibiotics in, i was screaming cos of the pain, lol cos i scream for no reason!! lol. something tells me i will have to develope a new personality to be able to put my foot down when im in hospital with my baby! Im not the sort to complain, but i think now is a good time to start eh?

littlemiss, I'm a midwife from uk living here in Cyprus and I feel so bad for you. Its awful that you should feel so under confident about your obstetric care and worried about things that you really shouldnt have to. I am a great believer in the normal and natural birthing process, and have always endevoured to ensure I facilitate that where ever possible. Where do you live? Feel free to email me. My www connection is terrible here so cant usually get on line when I want to, so dont worry if I dont reply for a few days. Email me if you like and I'll give you my phone number. Take care and BIG tip to help in the mean time in your quest for normal and natural, dont spend any great length of time laying back, lean forward, use cushions or what ever makes you comfortable. I will help if you want. x

That's if they let you move about!!

I had to stay in a lying position the whole way through. The doctor kept asking me if I wanted to push everytime a contraction came but I was in so much pain that I thought my eyes were going to pop out and couldn't answer him, so he told me off.

I think the pain was so bad cause I had an induced birth. I can't remember it being so bad for the previous two, but it was twelve years ago!

The nurse was a cypriot and she stayed by my side the whole time and talked me through. She was great. She told me to breathe in through my nose and out through my mouth, and that really did help.

I think Littlemiss, you will just have to grin and bear it and be patient. Keep thinking that it will soon be over. It's only a few hours of pain (hopefully) and at the end the reward is great. Is it your first? (You will know what I mean once you hold your baby in your arms).

And in the future if you have anymore children, go back to the UK for the birth lol.

Yep its my first, so extra extra nervous. Thanks pammie i live in Paralimni, and im having the baby in the Lito clinic there. Next time, if there is a next time im def going back to the uk to do this!!! I dont think i have ever been so nervous, scared and excited at the same time, and the fear part is only from the doctors here not the pain or having a new life to be responsible for! Maybe you will be hearing from me pammie, im going to go see my doctor in 2 weeks and try to discuss a few things, might come back to you to see if you think he is making sence or not if thats ok.

hi there littlemiss. I didnt explain myself really did I. I was in a bit of a rush. I was not talking about leaning forward when you are in labour, I mean NOW. You need the baby to be in optimum position before you go into labour. Spending time leaning forward now will help that later. The heaviest part of the baby is its head and spine and thats the part that you want to be closest to the outside of your tummy, think about gravity. If you lean forward, gravity comes into play and helps the baby to be in a forward position, if you spend large amounts of time laid back in an arm chair, gravity will urge the baby's head and spine towards your back. All that means in reality is that you may go into labour with the baby in a 'posterior' position which usually makes the labour that much longer and difficult. We can see through time that more and more ladies these days are having posterior deliveries, which were virtually unheard of years ago, because ladies used to spend a lot of time on their hands and knees scrubbing floors for instance. Dont worry, I'm not suggesting you should do the same, haha, but you could - when resting, put a pile of pillows and cushions etc on the floor and lean/lay forward on them. Its comfortable once you have found the best position for you! or an alternative is to get a kitchen/dining chair and sit astride it as if you were riding a horse. the benefits are two fold. You are sat forward and opening your pelvis. All beneficial for when you are in labour. Dont be afraid to stand your ground in any consultation, its about what you want, what makes you comfortable and happy - unless its for medical reasons of course. Trust your own judgement and instincts and of course you can consult me anytime. How many months are you?

hi l.miss and mafiot. well I can do both if you like. Best to email me l.miss as the powers that be have not seen fit to allow me to pm yet...hint hint (if anyone is listening) Keep saying I have to do quality posts! >hands on forehead making a W sign< 'WOT EVA". You cannot start doing the sitting forward thingy too soon LM, of course there are no guarentees that you will avoid a 'posterior' birth, but anything that can be done to help, I would do. Ok, 6months +. What are they basing all these dates on LM. Last period, scans, tape measure, crystal ball? But I would not get too hung up on the due date thingy. anytime between 37 and 42 weeks is absolutely fine, so as long as all your dates are falling within thses parameters then dont worry. He or she will come when ready. Not easy to hear I know, especially when its your 1st. Right LM. Stand up, knees slightly bent and feet hip distance apart. Hands on hips, or on the back of a chair, and gently rotate your hips/pelvis. Imagine if you were holding a pencil in your you know what, try drawing nice steady light circles on the floor. First one way then the other. The pelvis is made up of bones that are joined together with ligaments. During pregnacy, these ligaments soften to allow movement of the bones thus allowing the decent of the baby. Time to start limbering them up. BUT, if you have been suffering with pain on walking or getting in and out of the car etc from your pelvis, then dont do them, or if it hurts at all when you do them, then stop. Enough for today, do your exercises, and then have a nice cuppa. take care, You too mafiot. x
