Thinking of coming to Cyprus

Postby DaveHewitt » Sun Jul 02, 2006 11:16 pm

My girlfriend and I are seriously thinking of moving to Cyprus (Polis area if possible)
We are particularly cocerned abount the prospects of getting work out there as neither of us speak any foreign language (although willing to learn)
We are both 40 years old and would prefer to work part time (4 days a week)
We are both proffesionals within England but are willing to work in any sector in Cyprus (within reason)
We have enough money to buy a house outright and just want to earn enough to survive with a bit left over to enable us to return to England about 3 times a year.
Are we expecting too much or is this realistically possible.
Are there any major pitfalls in buying / living in Cyprus?

Your insight would be much appreciated.

Welcome to the forum , Polis is a wonderful little town , you are very lucky to be in a position to move to such a beautiful place . I know I was born about 10 kilometres away. Make the most of it , enjoy life , you will get work , and please let me know how you get on .

You will find work hard to get in Polis and it is very quiet in the Winter when many restaurants close. Be sure you can support yourself before taking the decision to move here.

Lana

Thank you for your reply,

Although we want to live in Polis we would be happy to travel to Paphos - do you think there is enough work there?

Hi Dave

You might like to look back over the various threads on employment, on this Forum. Unless you have specific skills you will be competing for employment with Eastern Euopeans who will work for very little. Greek would help your prospects. As has been said many times, it is 'who you know' here that counts for so much in getting a decent job.
