Getting married in Cyprus

Postby Sinead » Tue Jun 27, 2006 9:47 am

Hi everyone! I am new to this forum. I am really interested in getting married in Cyprus we are planning on it for next September. Thing is i have never been so i really need some advice from someone who knows the best area or oven better any one that has gotten married there already and can point me in the right direction of a good organiser.

Also does anyone know how much a typical Cyprus wedding would cost?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi i got married here in cyprus in march and organised it myself in just one month, so i know all the ins and outs. Our wedding cost around 2000 including everything from my dress to flowers, a limo, reception, town hall, everything! We catered for 60 guests. I was surprised how easy it all was so let me know if you need any help. I married in paralimni town hall near ayia napa as it was a bit bigger and very pretty. But it cost the same to get married in ayia napa, and in the summer they have a beautiful ampitheatre where they hold there ceremonies.

WOW i can't believe thats all it cost, that is fantastic.
I will also be looking at bring about 50-60 guests, i would like if they could all stay near eachother. I am not sure yet whether to have a Catholic or Civil wedding. I would love to do it outdoors. For the reception i have an idea in mind of it being on a height over looking beautiful scenery the ocean, mountains flowers. I would greatly appreciate any help you could give me.

There is a hotel just on the outskirts of ayia napa, its the grecian sands or park, not sure but i can find out for you, it has a platform that looks out over the sea at the top of the cliff i have a friend getting married there in august. The general wedding here is civil if you are only visiting you can book through the hotel, and the town hall, most hotels well the big ones have a chapel for weddings there is also a beautiful chapel in larnaca at the palm beach hotel i went to a wedding there two years ago, it was gorgeous. Also a close friend of mine is getting married on the beach so i can get some details from her if you fancy that idea. When were you planning on getting married? Remember its boiling here so in a big dress in july or august you might over heat. The beggining or the end of the season are ideal times. I had my photos taken at the monestry in ayia napa they were so nice.
Here is a rough idea of how much some things cost me here,
Limo 100cyp
flowers 180cyp
ceromony 75cyp this is more if you cant be here to register 3 weeks in advance i think 160 ish.
I rented my dress and veil etc for 100cyp, very beautiful and they made it to measure within a week.
Two tier cake was 70cyp i got this from a bakery in a village so much cheaper and i still have the top tier so it was plenty for 60ppl
I made my own table decs for 50cyp
4cyp for the stamps for the registration.
my husbands suit was 180cyp
Photos 300cyp including a gorgeous photo album.
rings were 400cyp
The reception i had in the village lots of food and drink was 500cyp
so total was roughly 2000cyp.
We did do our wedding on a budget as we are going to have a greek wedding later on but i had everything i wanted. I went by recomendations from friends on where to buy certain things, and i know a brilliant hairdresser who will come to your hotel and do your hair, she also does a rehursal for you so you can get exactly what you want.

We are planning to get married in September 2007
I am confused whether to organise it through someone at home or someone over there. I won't be travelling back and forth. Can you give me any links or pictures to see the places you are telling me about. I appreciate all your help.

I was working until recently for a company called Medweds who are based in Protaras and organise weddings all over Cyprus (not the north). They are a British run company and are very professional and will take all the headaches out of organising a wedding. They offer a personal service and are always available to chat through any aspects of your wedding with you and make suggestions etc. The costs are very reasonable particuarly compared to the UK. Their website is www.medwedsltd.com from the website you can download a brochure or you can ask them to send you one.

Good luck!
