How early are builders allowed to 'wake you up'??

Postby jg147 » Sat Jun 24, 2006 6:15 pm

Is there a law in Cyprus that states how early builders are allowed to start making a noise in a residential area??
We have some near us, they start at approx 7.15am, which I don't mind too much during the week as we have to be up for work & school (although my daughter may object now that school has finished!), but on a weekend, it's a nightmare!
They have no consideration for the residents, they shout and fling scaffolding about, generally making a racket, I know they have a job to do but should they not be made to start a bit later on a weekend?
One of the residents has approached the foreman, who said he couldn't tell the builders to quieten down because they were Turkish????
Is there anything that can be done????
Thanks

I believe it is 7.30, I lived near a new building and the neighbours would wake up the whole area by shouting at the constuction guys that it is not yet 7.30! (and they would then turn off their machines) :-) funny enough i would only wake up from the yelling and not the builders :-)

I have building sites all around were I live :( It is really annoying when they work on weekends also! At least they finish fast.

My understanding of the law is 7am, but as most builders are not Cypriot, no-one has bothered to tell them the Law!

There is little point in talking to the builders about it, they do what they are told; contact the head office of the developer/contractor and complain. If that fails, contact the Mukhtar, then the police.

On both sides of Cyprus, construction workers are not allowed to work on Sundays. If they want to work, they need the permission of the neighbours. I believe you can complain to your municipality if they work on Sundays.

Are you sure about this sadik? Have been rudely awoken by a very loud drilling sound for the last 2 Sunday mornings coming from a construction site just around the corner. If that is definitely the case, then a formal complaint will be made against the site.
