Turkey’s TRT bans Winnie the Pooh’s best friend from TV screens

Turkish state broadcaster TRT has decided not to broadcast the cartoon series Winnie the Pooh because the best friend of Winnie is Piglet.

Within Islam, the pig is considered an unclean animal. Programme planners at TRT discussed whether they could edit out Piglet, but decided against it because the character appears so frequently.

Observers believe that this TRT decision shows that the broadcaster is beginning to move towards more Islamic programming.

Turkey’s population is predominantly Islamic, but the country has a secular system. However, the current Prime Minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, is the leader of the conservative religious Justice and Development Party party.

Can a state that its national broadcaster bans a pig cartoon become a memeber of the EU?

EU is not like your local Video Club my dear Kikapu. They do not just revoke your membership if you don't take the movie back on time. Anyway the Pooh story was only a joke i came accross on a Brittish website. So hold your horses a bit and who knows...

You should have mentioned it, that you saw it in the "funny pages", then you would have gotten a different answer, my dear. Talking about pigs though, I remember about 15-20 years ago, Turkish TV did ban the "Muppet Show" during the month of Rammadan, because of "Miss Piggy". Did you ever her such foolishness in your life.!

Its just cartoons....So what if there is a pig in them! Winnie the pooh is banned in my house because he is annoying. I think thats a better reason. My daughter watches Donald Duck and MIckey mouse like I used to because I am perfect and I want her to be just like me
