the SC voted another resolution for cyprus.

using ofcource diplomatic language , they agreed on the followng

UN Security Council expresses regret that ``the gap between words and deeds remains too great for the Secretary General to resume fully his good offices mission`` and urges ``progress towards the resumption of negotiations for a comprehensive settlement`` in Cyprus.

the question is who do they mean ?
what do you think ?
are they , perhaps , trying to tell us sth ? remember our "partners" (france, russia, china , ....and to a lesser degree greece) accepted the above.

he also said that the situation got more complicates after the accession of the Republic of Cyprus to the EU, and the fact tht turkey wants also to become a member

Hi cypezokyli,

I've touched on this on another thread this morning regarding the withdrawal of Turkish troops. I believe the implication is for both sides to stop acting like children and get around the table. Usually if the SC is annoyed with one side in particular it says so. I think it is also being diplomatic towards the GC side in light of the Annan Plan rejection but also realises that the rejection of that plan was also democratic and that whatever settlement is agreed upon needs to have the blessing of a majority of Cypriots from both communities. Also note that this resolution has become somewhat of a boiler plate in the last two years and its wording has not really changed much. I think the message is that unless the people actually get their leadcership to do something pro-active, this situation can and will go on for some time to come.

I don't know what they mean, but I know what I would mean if I said such thing.

For me it is clear that the two sides are way too far apart. The Turkish side insists on partition, the GC side wants a true united state and instead of clearly saying what they want both sides play with vague words that can be interpreted in a million ways, such as BBF.

The Turkish side tries to hide their true intentions the last few years due to the EU prospects of Turkey (remember they were telling us the problem was solved in 74?) while the GC side is trapped in the huge concessions previous leaders have made without the consent of the majority of Greek Cypriots.

tpap and talat who live so close to each other didnot even meet for two years, and we are trying to get them to meet

Why is that? UN can provide assistance only If there is a will from both sides. If both sides refuse to meet each other how can the UN assist ? The UN can not do anything they cant force both sides to an aggreement! And they can not enforce a solution!

The current sitituation shows that both sides are happy with the current statues this is what message is sent abroad!
