In cities, suburbs and some villages you can get up to 1 or 1.5Mbit. Thats not super fast but it is not narrowband either!
robbie, u can arrange for a 1mb/s satellite broadband connection from the TC side of the island as its quite cheap there...works out to about what we would pay for a crappy 512kbit/s connection here in london
512Kbit connection is about 20 pounds in Cyprus and it should be cheaper in the UK. Can you get 1Mbit unlimited satellite broadband for that amount? I don't think so
