miltiades, thank you for your good words. Although I disagree with you on some issues I also have a tremendous respect for you.

Since I think this topic went way off topic I started a new thread to answer to your post:

Kikapu, nothing happens out of vacuum. The conflict between Turkish and Greek Cypriots is a chain reaction that started from the time the Ottomans first came to Cyprus. I hope you didn't expect me to write the whole history to Monksb. Whatever the history was, the fact is that the Turkish occupation of Cyprus today is inexcusable and therefore illegal.

Piratis,

No, you do not need to go back to the Ottoman days, but more recent events would have given the reader a better understanding of todays events.

Yes, the Turkish and Greek Cypriot conflict was a chain reaction that lead to a disaster. It's almost like a midair collision between two passenger planes. Think about all the mistakes that goes into a midair crashes, which is almost 99% human error. From miscommunication, ignorance, power play by the captain, overworked crew in the air and ground, equipment failure that escaped the crews attention and so on. If any one of those problems were dealt with in a meaningful way, you could have avoided the midair collision. The Turks and the Greeks did not take actions to avert the disaster, instead, we want to find all the answers from the "black box", when infact, if the safety and security and the well being of the passengers (Cypriots) were their main priority, then there would have been a happy landing. Lets hope the future flights (Cyprus) have a better crew to handle every concern that the pasengers (Cypriots) have, to avoid future midair collisions (wars).

WOW, I am not sure what to say. It is obvious to me that I need no read up a lot more on the Cypus issue. When I was a kid in England, I just remember the EOKA and the troubles at that time. It seems that I need to read up on the present situation. In just skimming the history since the beginning of the century it seems that England screwed up again. I dont think it will stop me from visiting the Turkish part of the island but it will open my eyes to what has happened and I hope you willall forgive my lack of knowledge.

ok, i kno there is alot of hubub about north cyprus being illegal and other crap...

forget that...

and why cant u dumbasses let barrie enjoy a damn holiday?

barrie, its very easy...u just drive to the border or u can get a tour which operates...id suggest going to Kyrenia or Girne as its known to TCs...Karpaso or Karpaz as its known to the TCs is another beautiful place with some of the most beautiful beaches in the world...unfortunately Karpaz/Rizokarpaso is quite a journey away...

Theres many great museums and historical sites to visit such as bellapais (beylerbeyi) in kyrenia, st. hilarion castle in kyrenia, or othellos castle in famagusta (magosa as its known to TCs) which is actually where Shakespeare's tale is based...
