Diabetes care in Cyprus

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

Oleg , welcome to the forum , I'm sure that JTR2006 ,who is far more qualified to provide answers than I'm , will respond soon. I'm a diabetic myself but type 2 , which means I take tablets , watch my diet and exercise .You little boy , bless him , must be type 1 and he is on insulin. The care in Cyprus is as good and better than most European countries. I live in the UK , but always consult a diabetic specialist when I'm in Cyprus , will be pleased to give you his details.
Unfortunately climatic changes are of no relevance to diabetics , but because of the weather he would be more likely to go swimming , play games and generally keep fit which is a must for diabetics. I take it when you say your son is 4,5 years you mean 4 1/2 years old not 45.
Should you want some details of my Doctor in Cyprus you can email me.
Regards

Thanks miltiades, yes to my son 4 1/2 years and at it 1 type, is necessary to it insulin. It is good, that on Chyprus very good care. I think problems with necessary medicines was not present. As you often happen on Chyprus could tell in more detail about health services there. In Russia a little bit other medical system and interestingly how many costs to me health services on Chyprus. In what city more qualified doctors on a diabetes. Probably to lodge is closer better. Can at you there is an information on medical insurance on Chyprus. Or you know where it is possible to read through about it? As we wish to come to Chyprus for long term (some months in a year). And in the further probably and to move on a constant residence it would be desirable to learn about medicine on Chyprus as much as possible. If there is an opportunity to contact your doctor on Chyprus. Thanks you for support. I shall be glad to continue with you dialogue.

Hi , Oleg , my Cyprus Doctor is Dr.DEMETRIS you can reach him on 99 629 942 this is his mobile number , I don't know his clinic number but I always call him on the mobile .If of course you are calling from Russia , you will have to add on the international code 00357 followed by the number.
I can not really give you much information on the cost of medicines since I get all mine from our wonderful Health service in the UK FREE !
Dr.Demetris is based in Limassol but I believe all towns have equally good doctors specialising with diabetes .
Regards and my best wishes .Hope your little boy is coping well , most young children do so and take it as part of life.

Hi miliade. Thanks for the information. At us in Russia we too receive free of charge insulin, needles, and the test-strip for glukometr. Needles and need to be bought the test-strip still, does not suffice. And we can use free of charge public transport and we have the discount in some drugstores and shops.

need to support my diabetic mother

JTR2006 wrote:Hi there,
As diabetes is very close to my heart i can answer this question for you.
Cyprus has an excellent diabetic awareness system in place in every city town and rural village on the island. As in the Uk the help available depends on the type of diabetes that you may have (ie insulin dependency etc..). My father has been a diabetic for most of his adult life, and until he came to the island just over 25 years ago was forever having problems with his health in the Uk. As both my parents are invloved in the medical profession here in cyprus, my mother is heavily involved with the Cyprus Diabetic Association and is one of the leading heads of the association within Larnaca. The CDA is internationally respected and has recently been granted the task of trialling pioneering new drugs, and glucose machines within cyprus, something which again my mother has been heavily involved in. This scheme has been a massive success and Cyprus dare i say it is HEADS further in diabetes awareness than many other European Countries. Indeed every month (or 2?) the CDA represents Cyprus(my mother is ALWAYS travelling!) at many international conferences on diabetes held all over the world, allowing the CDA to be at the forefront of technological innovations and research into the condition, which the information is then passed onto the association in Cyprus which implements all neccesary information into the job it does with diabetics in Cyprus.
Whenever someone is diagnosed with diabetes within Larnaca Hospital anyways, he or she is referred to the association who will help you come to terms with the new way of life as well as prepare you and assist you with all the neccesary information and clinical procedures now needed. This you would NOT get with the NHS instead they would tell you to see your GP who in turn would pass you off with millions of bits of information in the form of leaflets which would leave you confused, or so i hear from many people who have found the NHS less than helpful towards them when diagnosed with this condition. I have seen many people retire to cyprus with diabetes or develop it whilst here, and they are all living happy normal lives under a diabetic awareness scheme which in my opinion is SECOND TO NONE in Europe.
I Hope this helps. Should you need any more information(as i am new!) please dont hesitate to email me(this you can do through the admin?) and i will be more than happy to put you in touch with the association who can help you in any way shape or form you may require.

Hi there how are you
i'm stavros and i'm searching for a good private clinic or a good private doctor that deals specifically with diabetics. my mother is on insulin for many many years now and she started to develop eye sight problems and we need to stop using the public hospitals and the GPs as i believe my mom needs a more special attention and care.
can we have a private chat on email ([email protected])? you could direct me on who to contact to start a new chapter for my mom with different specialists and more intensive care.
Thanks a lot
Stavros
