Furniture - how quick are they to deliver?

Postby czammuto » Thu Jun 08, 2006 4:29 pm

Hi everyone

I have just returned from Paphos, after finding my ideal property and having an offer accepted. When I return, (end of this year?), I want to visit the local shops to buy some furniture and white goods, however, I will be restricted for time (probably in cyprus 1 week or less).

If I order a load of stuff, how quickly do the shops generally turn around orders and have them delivered? I'm worried in-case I get there and get the usual UK response of "it'll be about 12 weeks?" - as much as I'd like to, I can't wait that long in cyprus for the order to be delivered!

Any advice?

Also, any recommendations on good furniture/electrical shops with good packages/service would be appreciated!

Many Thanks.

From my experience a week should be enough, but tell them EVERYTHING is CASH ON DELIVERY!!

Ignore this advice at your own risk!

Cabbies advice is good but you should also ensure that your chosen supplier has your goods in stock and can deliver within your deadline

In Nicosia the Superhome Centre- Do it yourslef - is one of the best in terms of pricing so I recommend it to you. You can go and have a look in there before going anywhere else. You can also ask whether you can have the furniture delivered in paphos. The prices there are very reasonable. You can buy an office wooden desk for only 60 pounds with all facilities required for a PC to be fitted in. Also I have seen a big sofa that can be turned into a bed for only 150 cy pounds. Kitchen table with 5 chairs included priced at 140 cy or less!

There are also electrical items in good value and quality. There is also a Superhome branch in paphos but it is not as big as the one in Nicosia! It is cheaper than other places since it is do it yourslef style! So I recommend it to you and I hope you listen to me!

To be honest if they have it in stock and you tell them if its not delivered in the time allotted, then you will not pay or want it.. you have to be a bit brutel and to the point as you can in my experience be told a load of BS and it doesnt arrive. Money is a great motivator..

If it is in stock a few days, if not a couple of months, plus add one month if August is involved; I have just been pricing up furniture for one of my properties!

Hi Claire
If the items are in stock you usually get delivery same day-- next day at the latest --- but do ask.

I looked round various shops for the furniture for my place and eventually went back to one place that offered good pricing and reasonable quality items .

I arrived at 12.30 on a Saturday -- not knowing at that time that the shops close at 1pm on Saturdays -- the owner kept the shop open whilst I picked all the furniture I wanted --- he then asked directions for delivery and as he wasn't sure of the area asked me if I would wait til the van was loaded ( I actually helped him load the van ) and he would follow me home --- by 4pm that afternoon everything was delivered and in place in my new home.

Don't be shy --- ask for substantial discounts and freebies --- you will get them if you are spending a large amount.

I did the same with the electrical goods on the Monday morning --- bought everything I needed from the same shop -- very healthy discount and a few freebies ( kettle / ironing board / steam iron and coffee maker -- every thing was delivered and fitted on the Monday afternoon .

Remember -- ASK FOR A DISCOUNT ON THE TOTAL PRICE PLUS WHAT THEY WILL GIVE YOU FREE --- DON'T BE SHY

we have a great store over here that sells very reasonable priced and trendy home furniture called Ikea, Its great I have heard they may be opening in cyprus by 2008.
Anyway my point is you can order online from their catalouge and have it delivered to your home, are there any stores that do that in Cyprus or do you have to go in and order?
