I Need your opinion !

HI everyone!

I need your help... I'm coming to Paphos in September. I've send a lot of CV's to differents hotels, and today I had a phone call from a company who ownes 4 hotels in Paphos (Athena Royal, the Pioneer, Paphian..) saying that they would employ me, give me free accomodation (sharing with someone else), free flight at some point...20 day holidays..etc...

but it's a one year contract, 6 days a week, 8 hours a day.... and salary sorry would be £450 a month...
moneywise I think it's alright no ??
But it's a lot of hours.. so it comes to something like £2 an hour... but free accomodation..... but if I'm able to find a job and a flat on my own I'd rather do that and be free !
Anyway, I'm getting confused writting all this....

What do you think about it ???
Any opinion would do !
Cheers guys !

Hi Pauline,
Pay and hours seem about standard but beware you may end up working more hours for the same money, especially if you depend on your employer for accommodation as well.

First rule of thumb.(Generally Speaking)
Foreigner working for Cypriot = SLAVE

Pauline,

I have never worked in a hotel, but stayed in hell of a lot. Specially at "all inclusive resorts" in Turkey, where I would see the same people working breakfast and lunch, and dinner, plus evening entertainment events. The 8 hours working more than likely will be split several times. You may actually work 8 hours, but it may take 16 hours to do it. Plus you're sharing a room with another worker who may have different working hours to yours. You will both get in each others way with no privacy. You will have to do everything from working in the kitchen to making beds. If you really want to give it a try, see if you can get 3 month probation period inserted into your one year contract, where you and your employer can walk away from it within the 3 months. Three months should be enough time to know if you want to stay for another 9 months or not.

I think those who work in restaurants and hotels are the hardest workers, and I always show my appreciation with a good tip. Hope all works out for you.

You can also ask your boss to give you specific information on what you will be doing in the hotel maybe a list of your duties ! You may enjoy what you will be doing or you may not. SOmetimes working in a hotel can be nice depending on what you will be doing! Ask also whether they can offer you a room not shared!

Regarding your hours you also need to ask whether it is one shift or you will be working different hours!

For Athena Royal hotel this is what I have found http://www.athenaroyal-cbh.com/home.php

For pioneer hotel Paphos this http://www.pioneer-cbh.com/home.php

For Paphian this one http://www.paphian-cbh.com/home.php

Which one will you be working for? All of these hotels are owned by Constantinou Bros which is a company listed in the Cyprus Stock Exchange!

Many hotels provide also some meals to their employees so you may also get this option!

The hotels you have given above Athena , Pioneer , Paphian all belong to a group which is listed on the Cyprus Stock exchange - Constantinou Bros- So it seems a well established company this is my point! But you need to investigate more by yourslef !

what about the hours ? do you think 48 hours a week is normal or does that look to much ? Compare to what people usually work in Cyprus ?
