-
"He simply walked up to the car, fired six rounds and escaped on foot. What is this country turning into?" says terrified onlooker.
Two men were arrested in suspicion that they are related to the incident/Police are continuing the investigation.
AN unbelievable armed assault took place in the busiest high streets in Girne, Mete Adanir Street, in broad daylight.
Prominent developer Santa Fe director Okan Erdogan was shot at 6 times while sitting in his vehicle in heavy traffic late afternoon on Monday.
Mr Erdogan who sustained injuries in his leg was approached by a man reportedly wearing a red T-shirt posing as someone asking directions. Once the man came into range of aiming to the spot where he wanted to shoot he fired six bullets into Mr Erdogan's Hummer at close range obviously intending to wound and warn him.
Experts suggest that if the intention was to kill Mr. Erdogan the man could have shot from a greater distance aiming at the upper half of the victims body, however the shooting at close range into the lower part of Mr Erdogan's body indicated that the intention was to warn. It is a known way of warning rivals and debtors in the mafia way of dealings things to shoot in the legs. It is accepted as a message saying that 'whoever has done this can do much worse if necessary."
Santa Fe Director Mr Okan Erdogan's car hit the vehicle in front of it as a result of the attack and stopped. He was later taken to Girne Akcicek hospital by shocked passers by. Mr Erdogan was later transferred to Lefkosa State Hospital for further treatment.
Witnesses said that the man who was wearing a red T-shirt escaped on foot after he shot the businessman.
"The unease in the property market due to the political situation has slowed down the sales and the payments of the sold properties. Therefore the amounts of money owed to various places by developers and builders are, if not will be overdue soon" said one property expert expressing his concern that the TRNC may become a scene of mafia type settlements like the one Girne residents had to witness on Monday. Yesterday two men were arrested by the police in suspicion that they are related to the incident. The Girne police are investigating the incident.
