BBC TO MAKE PRO OCCUPATION PROGRAMME

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

[quote RichardB=]

Joining the EU has also led to an influx of 'foriegners' which didn't happen in the past (or at least not to the extent it is now) and perhaps these people are seen as a threat to their traditions and heritage.
quote]

Afluence of people is happening in every country of Europe. You are just happy in Cyprus that people coming in there are more or less wealthy and independent.
As for your traditions and heritage the same applies as everywhere else. You are the one who knows them and the one with the responsability to preserve them.

Cheers.

Up until a couple of years ago i would have agreed that most of the foreign residents were generally wealthy and independent. Not so now... On joining the EU Cyprus agreed to open its doors to any citizen of the EU. As has been discussed on other areas of the forum persons from the former eastern bloc countries are willing to work for less wages and this could be seen as taking jobs from locals.
This is just a personal view to answer the question as to why do the people of Nicosia seem xenophobic

Well, I understand that. So incoming people are from different backgrounds now.
But that's nothing different neither. It is just one of the magnificent thing the EU will bring to Cyprus. You will have no choice but upgrade your general qualifications as people coming from other countries are doing the more general jobs for less money. That only means in reality that you were (as well as the rest of Europe) earning more than you were offering.
Now, if you want to earn the same you need to know more. It's called evolution and nobody escapes from it.

Shame maybe, but possible. It is our way not to get really lazy. Xenophoby is indeed, not the answer.

Cheers

I agree with what you say julio.

As i said this was just a suggested answer to an earlier question.

No one is more pro european than me.

Also I have the best of both worlds being married to a cypriot , having homesand living (well 50% of the time) in Cyprus but being paid a UK wage.

Where are you based?

lysis u speak 100% sense im getting sick of these kochinogolos speaking shite about things they know nothing about, explain how abandoned homes which havent been reclaimed by a new "government" of northern cyprus can be anything but stolen? the fact that this shows evern being aired to encourage people to buy these homes is really sickening and just shows what mentality this government has for a fellow EU country. After all isn't this country sposed to NOT recognise turkey as a EU country yet? and for all you lot thinking about buying these homes the blood of all those died during this is going to be on your hands.

keep fighting the war.
