pigeons

I agree they can be a nuisance, but there are other ways to deal with them than killing them, spikes so they cant land, low cost chemical thats sticky and makes life uncomfortable. if you poison them its indiscriminate and the sparrows, martins and other birds will die. I could never understand why they dont make them sterile so they cant produce pidglets or pidglings :)) and i dont mean take each one and chop their bits off, put the stuff in food, i know they talked about it in England to use on traffalger square. They eat pigeons here, but i think these are wood pigeons and not your common and garden variety. so no good for pigeon pie.

its the pooping everywhere that is the problem........ my poor mum who isnt getting any younger has the wonderful job of clearing it up all around the house, she has had spikes put up but they are persistant and still wont go she asked the municipality to help and they said shoot them, mmmm very wise and safe when you have kids living in all the houses around. Oh and rest asuured she isnt feeding them! we need the pidgeon man to come and lay down the chemicals or the sticky stuff cant see lil ol mum on the roof lol im sure she would if she could but she isnt super gran lol. we did come up with the idea of putting a stray cat up there but i think that might be a little too cruel.

what attracts them to your mums house? maybe there is a tree they like that have fruit or nuts they are particular too, maybe the dog food thats left out.. even water left out in the garden, Litter attracts them too. they nest at this time of the year, so is there a roof space they can get into? The problem with poisoning is where they will die and what will eat it. Also their poop is toxic after and other creatures eat that.. So not an easy task before you or an easy decision.

when you have decided to kill why worry about cruelty?
putting a stray cat sounds more natural than poisoning.

Actually baby pigeons, in Cyprus called Pezounia, in Cyclades called Pitsounia are a traditional meze for the conesseurs usually acompanied with the local raki which is called Zivania in Cyprus... Tinos is also well known for pigeon farms...

This is how a pigeon farm looks like:

If you want to get rid the natural way, you can use a model bird of prey like a sort of kite , its shodow supposedly scares them away! I have seen them advertised in the uk, but not sure about Cyprus

Pigeons are vermin - they are a terrible problem in the city areas. They are dumb, dirty and spread disease.

If you dont feed them they will go away - agreed. Also put spikes up on your window sills.

The best way to deal with them is to cut off their food supply and they will spend more time looking elsewhere for food and less time mating. Theres a humane way to get rid of them!

I have seen a model of a big black scary cat in a shopping cataloque ( betterware -http://www.betterware.com/) that can be placed in the garden as a deterrent to birds. I dont know If it works for pigeons though but it seems a good method to scare birds!

These have been tried here in Pissouri and simply don’t work. :(

As has been pointed out several times earlier in the thread – pigeons can be a disgusting problem without feeding them.

I lived in an apartment in Pissouri while my house was being built here. I can assure you than none of the residents fed the disgusting creatures but they had just decided to use the apartment building as a ‘base’.

The only way to get rid of them (having tried nets, model birds, and sticky stuff) is to shoot them.
