Channel 5 show about Occupied Cyprus

Channel 5 Property Show about occupied Cyprus
On Tuesday 30th May at 8.00 pm Channel 5 intend to show a programme "Property Developing Abroad: Northern Cyprus" stating in the TV guides "Nottingham couple Carl and Jane buy an abandoned property in northern Cyprus, hoping to increase its value by £20,000 in 10 weeks. Presented by Gary McCausland".

Obviously, much of the property in occupied northern Cyprus belongs to Greek Cypriots who abandoned their properties and fled for their lives in 1974 when Turkey invaded Cyprus. Turkey still occupies one third of the island. Channel 5 is promoting the exploitation of stolen assets by making and proposing to broadcast this programme. By implication this is aiding and abetting invasion, occupation, theft and the denial of human rights to the Greek Cypriot legal owners of the properties by promoting the concept that this is legitimate "property development abroad".

We as owners of properties in occupied northern Cyprus must complain and protest, we must apply pressure for the cancellation of this programme, we must make our voice heard and email, phone and write to Channel 5 immediately. Hopefully, if they receive a large negative response to their proposed programme they will not broadcast it.

Will you give both sides of the story or should we also email Channel 5? I think I'll email anyway.

Whether I object to the programme will depend on how it is presented. If it is simply presented as "Northern Cyprus is a goldmine, come here, buy land and make a killing", then obviously it is objectionable. However, if they point to the pitfalls of buying property/land in the north and highlight that this couple are exploiting the situation for their own ends, then it will be more worthwhile. Somehow, something tells me that the first scenario is much more likely, especially since the chances are that most abandoned properties in the north are GC property. Nonetheless I'll wait and see the content before objecting.

Guys, Channel5 would have done their research well before making this programme. You can email the Queen if you want. The programme will be shown and it will tell it like it is.

You GC's amaze me, when are you going to learn to accept the fact that you are not seen as the victims but the villains in the Cyprus scenario. Sad it it may be but true.

mrfromng , you are forgetting that 200000 lost their homes and became refugees.
By any stretch of imagination you can not seriously call these people the villains !!
The victims are not only the dispossessed Greeks but also the thousands of Turkish Cypriots that face an uncertain future while the present situation continues . We must not loose sight of the fact that in order to proceed towards a lasting solution and a reunification of our Island , there are certain criteria that will first have to be addressed. The property , foreign troops , international guarantees safeguarding Cyprus's independence, a new constitution based on human rights and with a strong allegiance to our nation and our flag , and the promotion of the Cypriot identity as the predominant entity of the land.
Both sides as far as I'm concerned have been manipulated by the foreign "motherlands " and to a true Cypriot it is an absolutely abhorrent idea that foreign troops will be on our soil with the legal impetus to intervene anywhere as they feel they ought to.
