The property was a former health centre/clinic according to Cyprus Today newspaper. So it was government owned??

Not necessarily might have been a private clinic, considering it is the size of a villa. Do not forget even in 2006 public health services are about a millenium behind in Cyprus than the rest of the EU countries.

Maybe Strahd, not sure (the article did not say) but it does have a car parking area beneath it, maybe it was private. It will be interesting to see if original ownership is mentioned wont it?

Would it highlight the fact than an occupation force of 40000 armed Turkish troops still have their own occupational regime inside the republic of Cyprus soil, and the house they are talking about is inside this territory?

It may very well do. Do you think it will mention how Turkish Cypriots are exiled from the rest of the world?

Dont forget this is not a political programme. The programme is about buying a property that needs restoration, doing it up and selling it at a profit. Politics dont play any part in that.

One thing it may do is remind the world that the island is still divided.

Don't you think that obviously those who support the illegal regime of the Turkish army have chosen the isolation? By suppoting illegality you are a criminal yourself, even Bush knows that... so stop the fullish claims and if you want to stop isolation revolt against those who have imposed to you, the Turkish army.

Finally I can imagine that you can also make a lot of money by selling restored stolen goods... but it is illegal and promoting someting illegal on TV is like promoting, robbery, drugs etc. So just quit windging and look at the realities. YOU ARE SLAVES OF THE TURKISH ARMY, PRISONERS INSIDE YOUR OWN REPUBLIC AND YOU SUPPORT IT...SO YOU ARE WORTHY OF YOUR LUCK...

Strahd

I am not going to get into a politcal debate with you regards legalities and illegalities as this has been covered on numerous threads before. The result of which is dizziness, caused by going around in circles.

Finally I can imagine that you can also make a lot of money by selling restored stolen goods... but it is illegal and promoting someting illegal on TV is like promoting, robbery, drugs etc.

No one knows or has confirmed if the property in question has Greek, Turkish or otherwise deeds. Yet again you assume things. Please dont as the word "assume" broken up means making an "ASS out of U and ME"

Your assumptions regards this property may very well be ill found the same as your assumption of me being a criminal. I can go to sleep at night with a clear conscience.

I am neither Turkish or Turkish Cypriot, although i have been called a "whinger" before. So therefore i am not a slave inside my own republic.....back to the assumption thingy again.

Your forgetting the program is about buying property abroad doing it up and making money from it. IT IS NOT ABOUT POLITICS, THE ARMY, OCCUPATION.

You perhaps should heed Svetlana's advice

They announced this before the broadcast.

Before we get too 'hot under the collar' about this we should await to see if this is 'stolen land' or a legitimate purchase of legal pre -74 TC or foreign owned land.

I have just spoken with a source at Channel 5 with regards the cancellation of last nights programme about property development in TRNC.

I have been informed that under their lawyers advisement the programme WILL be aired but definately not within the next two weeks.

Does that mean therefore that Channel 5 should expect further expect another barrage of e mails, letters and telephone calls from all disgruntled parties in the hope that the programme be cancelled a second time ?

I tell you what, so as to guarantee the success of this mission of censorship why don't you (to borrow a plot device from Lost) get yourselves a hatch, bury it somewhere deep within the forest of a deserted island, install a computer in there and have a round the clock team of crack e mailers whose mission it is to ensure that an e mail is sent to Channel 5 protesting and condemning the proposed showing of this aforementioned programme every 108 minutes.

Dear all,

Actually the programme that was shown was not about Cyprus, the programme was pulled. The programme shown was actually about Spain.

I thought the Greek Cypriots wanted to, to bring the Cyprus attention into the masses, instead they call the BBC to cancel a show that no body has any idea what they were going to show or say. It could have infact talked about pit-falls in buying property in the North, which would have discouraged thousands from thinking about buying in the North. I thought the ROC was all about democracy and free speech. Honestly, talk about throwing away good opportunities to hear what exactly the show intended to say and show, but now, we can read all the posts from this forum, what they all think what the show was all about.

Dear Correspondent

Thank you for recent enquiry Property Developing Abroad.

Episode 2 of the series, which follows a British couple's search for a property in Northern Cyprus, was scheduled for transmission on Tuesday 30th May. In the days leading up to transmission we were contacted by a number of individuals who expressed concern over the programme's content. In order to give us time to address these we decided to postpone transmission of the episode, it is now currently scheduled for 13th June at 20.00.

The programme was made for Five by Granada Productions. In researching the programme, the producers were extremely sensitive to the "Turkish invasion" of the northern part of the island in 1974 and to the plight of Greek Cypriots forced to flee the area. The programme explains the potential legal minefield prospective purchasers are entering when they consider buying in the north of the island coupled with the moral and emotional issues of doing so. Viewers will be left in no doubt of the legal, economic, and political implications of buying property there.

However, it is true that Northern Cyprus is an attractive prospect for British property developers. The programme provides viewers with the information they need to decide whether to explore the opportunities available.

If there is anything further we can help you with, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Thank you for your interest in Five.

Yours sincerely
Philip
