You didn't miss anything, the programme didn't tell us anything we didn't already know, much ado about nothing.

So what stance did the program take? Did it involve former GC property in Northern Cyprus or not?

According to a small article on Phileleftheros website it was presented that a couple from Nottingham bought "abandoned" property that possibly belonged to GC refugees.

Interesting article, do we know if the programme made any comments regarding the political situation on the island and the possible repercussions of buying dispossessed property?

WE MUST DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE OCCUPATION

Postby lysi » Thu Jun 15, 2006 2:20 pm

Why dont you greek cypriots start to tell me what YOU do about the occupation ? Do you contact the CYPRUS, TURKISH , BRITISH GOVERNMENTS ? Do you contact the UN & EU to complain about the turkish occupation ? Do you contact greedy estate agents based in the UK & occupied areas to complain about the exploitation of greek cypriot land ?
Do you contact the media ?
Dont sit back and do nothing while people make money from the land that has been stolen from you, dont let turkey get away with the occupation of cyprus, make some noise , confront people and companys that are pro-occupation, confront sad groups like the PRO-OCCUPATION HOMEBUYERS PRESSURE GROUP.
DO SOMETHING PLEASE

Thanks for answering my question Lysi. So, in other words, the property show that you have boycotted for the last 2-3 weeks, was nothing you thought it was about, since your silence is deafening on the subject. Be careful before you yell "fire" again in a crowded theatre. !!!

I watched the programme and as a Brit wishing to buy in South Cyprus (sorry!!) I was appalled at the attitude of the buyers and programme makers looking at properties that 'may' have been abandoned. In most cases there was no doubt they had been abandoned.

The host made a pathetic attempt at describing the political history and why buying may cause problems but it was a weak gesture and the programme ended with the buyers encouraging others to buy in North Cyprus.

It was sickening and as a Brit I apologise to you all.

However, please don't degrade all British people buying in (South) Cyprus - you all have the chance to build a life in the UK where there are more opportunities and our countries add a huge amount to your economy through tourism and through the millions we invest into Europe.
