What Happens After Kofi Annan Steps Down?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

In the next 4 years, things will get worse for Mr. Ki-Moon, as more nations would want to go Nuclear, including Turkey. I do not believe, with all these happening, and more on the way, that Cypriot problem with population less than 1 million, will take too much center stage, when half the world wants to go Nuclear. It will be like refereeing 20 football matches at the same time, and we know how dirty the players get, when the "ref" is not watching. It is time for the Cypriots to referee their own match, and not be part of the other 20 matches.!!

Couldn't agree more Kikapu. The UN's got enough cr@p on its plate to be getting along with. It is, as you say, up to us Cypriots to do something.

I also agree with this, but so far I don't see it happening. There's that sense of delaying tactics as each party involved in the Cyprus political problem tries to gain advantage.

In the meantime, the people - all the people - on this island still live in what is technically a state of war. I only hope that Ki-Moon can encourage the political leadership to get their act together and make some positive changes.

What happens when Kofi Annan steps down December 31st 2006, and do you think there will be any substantive changes in the various positions taken by the EU, UN, Cyprus government & Turkey before he steps down?

All you lot have disappointed me. None of you answered the question. Nothing will happen before he steps down

hi elko,

I believe Kikapu answered your question in one of his posts:

Nothing is going to change for Cyprus and as Kikapu points out, we are hardly number one on the agenda. The SG is going to want some reassurances at least that any future initiative will not only be negotiated in good faith but be likely to suceed. We as Cypriots need to take the initiative.
