Eric Wood,

There was a survey couple of weeks ago of the 25 EU nations, and I forgot the exact nature of the survey, but had something to do with which state had the most concerns about their economy, and Cyprus was the worst with 82%. Take it for what's it's worth.

Kikapu the survey was in fact economic data of the 25 member states, the Cyprus figure 83% was infact in relation to Europe as a whole based on the average basket of 100% . For instance the UK is 118% , Portugal 73% , Poland 47% , Malta 73% , Greece 81% .In fact Cyprus had the highest amongst the 10 new members that along with Cyprus became members in 2004

Put an ad in the Cyprus Weekly – cheap and effective. ;-)

Hi Eric

As Miltiades says dont despair.

Although in a different trade to you (catering) I also had problems finding work initially.

Basicly what i ended up doing was going round every hotel in Pafos, Limmasol and Larnaca with letter of introduction in hand adertising myself as a freelance Chef. I say going round personally as letters written seem to end up in the reception bin, this way I could usually get to speak with the manager one to one. Gradually work started coming in and if you're good at your trade then offers of permanent work will eventually be offered.

Dont know if this would be helpful in your case but it worked for me.

Not teaching you to suck eggs but have you tried advertising your services in english language newspapers etc?

Unfortunately My present job keeps me in UK 50% of time so i might have to revert back to my original plan again.

Good Luck

Thanks for correcting me. It was a quick glance at the TV when I saw Cyprus appeared on a list of countries.

Chin up Eric!

Moving house isn't easy, moving country must be even harder!

You will be ok in time...just think of us poor buggers back here in UK with all the rain!

I recently spoke with a lady who told me there is no way to find a plumber in Paphos. I suppose the idea is to do some marketing, newspapers and that staff. People are looking but they cannot find and on the other hand, people like you are strugling for work.

Good luck.
