CHILD BENEFITS

Postby Cyprus Vending » Fri May 26, 2006 8:08 am

Hi All

We have been hoping to move to Cyprus for a long time.

Now at long last we can do it.

But, after giving up trying for children, not only do we have a fantastic son - Louis who is 18mths old. Jo is now pregnant again (due Xmas week).

Is it true that child benefits are NOT paid to non Cypriots?

Unless it has changed dramatically, child benefits are not paid unless you have 4 or more children. Therefore you have to work and work and work.

Hi again, good news! Just picked up my son from nursery and bumped into the other lady and yes, you can claim as long as you have a residents permit. She said the form is in Greek but they will help you to fill it out. She also has only two children. The building to go to is opposite Zara on Anexartisias Street (main shopping road) in the old town of Limassol. Any other help you need, just ask. Are you coming to Limassol?

Thats is good news! Thank you.

We are going to rent a place in the Paphos area for 6 to 12 mths - we are in Paphos next week to view a load.

Now all we need to find out is; do we have to pay for the birth like we had to in France! Then we had to claim it back from the UK..... It took months...

As far as I know, you have two options, firstly to go to the General Hospital which as far as I know is free and secondly to go private, which many people choose to do altho may cost up to 700/800CYP. There are many private hospitals about but I would wait til you come out and either check them out, go and see the General Hospital and ask other English people. I chose to return to UK for my 2 births lol

I believe the General Hospital costs a stupid amount of money like 5$ a day and 100 for the birth if you dont have special papers to be seen for free. It is still very cheap though, with good doctors some trained in the US and some trained in the UK. But, thats for the LImassol General Hospital I do not know about Paphos.

Well im having my baby in a private hospital and its costing a bloody fortune! Its worth it tho to know im in good hands. I pay 10cyp for each visit to the doctor 30cyp for ultrasounds ( and you get alot more of them here than you do back in the uk ) 25cyp for a blood test and the birth if natural can cost between 600 to 800cyp depending on how many drugs you have. I have a friend who just had her baby in the same hospital, she paid everything at the end and it came to 2000cyp this was a C-section birth. I hear if you have been paying your stamps you can claim a maternity grant will be going to find out where i stand shortly so will let you know how i get on.
