It is Unfair to Greece to blame only Greece and not allocate responsibilities at home as well. Maybe the biggest responsibility! I dont like to sound melodramatic but acknowledging some responsibilities will not harm anyone!
Thats what I was getting at michalis. You really sound like you want to blame Greece and all, but we are responsible too. Greece was in a turmoil too at that time and it was our job to stand up to the coup if we didnt like it. We need to man up to what we did and didnt do and then try to point at others.
History clearly states that then government of Greece did play a role in the 1974 fiasco by allowing the invasion to take place. However since then any legal government that succeeded junta had done their up most to rectify that mistake.
Also if you look closely to the historical evidence the first to initiate the division idea were the English that were unwilling to give up their right to the island. Then USA and USSR got involved and Turkey drew the short straw and committed the invasion because the Cypriots wouldn’t willingly agree to the idea of separation.
So it is a collective blame and to be honest the Greek junta were pushed to agree to the invasion because the USA offered to help them to attain credibility.
from what i've read in this thread, greek goddess is the most accurate as i know it.
at the end of the day, the UK and america played greece and turkey like fools against each other and acheived their goal for partition.
funny how the UK reporters were right there when the turkish paratroopers were dropping in...
