Due to the situation we find ourselves we to also have the right to grant citizenship, this is not a privlidge solely for GCs, you cannot monopolize everything. Whether the people who have followed our procedures will in the overall solution be granted the united Cyprus citizenship, that is another matter altogether and will be addressed if we ever agree a solution.
Sure vp, and I agree that the only constructive way forward is to treat all settlers and new citizens in RoC in the same way. The normal route in these situations is to assess each person on their merits. Decisions have to be made as to what would automatically qualify someone for citizenship, e.g. should being born in the country do this as it does in many but certainly not all countries, should residence for a number of years also lead to automatic citizenship etc...? Beyond this, some kind of point system which takes into account the person's contribution to society could be implemented. So as in the UK, if you have been living in Cyprus and paying taxes year in year out for a number of years this would give you enough points to apply for citizenship for example. What I would say is that there is a big difference, illegalities aside, between giving citizenship to foreigners who either contribute to the economy or are genuine asylum seekers compared to granting citizenship for the sole purpose of changing a country's demographics.
Now I realise we don't know any solid figures, but I would say that the TRNC has abused it's power to grant citizenship with an aim to changing the demographics of the island to a much larger extent than the RoC has. Of course we will only know for sure once a full census is carried out.
