CENSUS REVEALS SOARING POPULATION IN THE NORTH

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

adnri, there are no official results since this census was performed by an illegal entity for political reasons.

Oh for goodness sake Piratis - just give it a rest will you/ - We ALL want to see what the results are and will wait until the OFFICIAL ones come out.... then and only then can we make judgements on the veracity of the statistics.

We ALL

ALL? I don't. Already your statement is false.

If you replace the "ALL" with "all those that endorse ethnic cleansing and therefore accept as official results provided by an illegal pseudo puppet state". Then your statement might be true.

I am going to take your word for it since I am not there. But I had read somewhere that the UN was supposed to be involved in the whole census process.

I would hope that UN is involved in this. If the aim of the census is to see what the demographic state in N. Cyprus is, then fine and the TRNC should be commended for this. If however, the aim is a political aim to gain points by claiming that all these years there has not been any immigration from Turkey and that there has not been a change in Cyprus' demography then I am already suspicious of the merits of having a census. Of course the RoC itself has also changed demographically, as all states do, so we need to bear in mind that a certain amount of change since 1974 is inevitable. What needs to be done is an assessment of the demographics with a view of unifying the country. A true indication of, for instance, the number of settlers in the North will make a solution easier in as much as both parties will understand the scale of what needs to be dealt with when it comes to settlers and how this issue will affect the return of refugee property. At the end of the day honesty is the best policy and as long as the TRNC census provides a true indication of the North's demographics then all it can do is help us down the road to reconciliation.

Piratis, I do not think that they are trying to hide the number of settlers this time. TCs and settlers are indeed counted seperately. Each person was asked for their birth place, their citizenship status, as well as their parents birth place. So it should be fairly easy to get an accurate picture. They will complete the analysis in 5 months and make the detailed annoucement then.

and here's another quote:

"What is taken after bloodshed is not given back."...

The last quote was from the Greek side in 1963, and issued through the local Greek press in Nicosia after the G's had driven TC's from a suburb of Nicosia... ( http://www.cyprus-conflict.net/birgen, 2 essays, 1976.htm )

Oooohhhh the irony.

StuartN. You are nother ethnic cleansing supporter that is looking with the microscope to find blames for the Greek Cypriots during the past, missing along your search the 100 times more crimes of Turks against the GCs during the past , and closing your eyes to the crimes and illegalities that are forced by Turkey today

The irony Stuart, is that we fought with you against the Nazis, and in the end you became worst than them. (Do you know that the Nazis invaded Czechoslovakia to "protect the German minority"?)

After supporting the crimes of Turkey and Israel, throwing nuclear bombs, butchering the children of Vietnam, Iraq and so many other countries, what is next for you Stuart? To give us lessons of good behavior? Well, thats an even bigger irony right there!

Before you talk just think that GCs are half a million people that suffer and continue to suffer from the megalomania and expansionist policies of countries like yours. Make your self-criticism before trying to find ways to blame GCs and excuse the human rights violations against them that continue as we speak.
