How do we know that the Cyprus Mail is American-funded??

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Kifeas , though we did not agree on everything said on this forum on the number of subjects we both added our contribution to , I do have a very healthy respect for your tenacity and your adherence to civil debate avoiding , not always but most of the time , confrontation. I admit that I would be extremely concerned , if indeed the only English language paper is behaving in a manner likely to distort the facts and give the the wider English speaking public a false picture of the Cyprus issue. Living in the UK , the only time I read the CM is when visiting Cyprus , and I did state earlier that I noticed the uncomplimentary comments dished out at the President, I took this with a pinch of salt , and thought nothing more about it. Are you saying that this paper propagates damaging and inaccurate reports regarding our Government in order to intentionally project the wrong picture about the ROC ?
I will be interested if you point me to some reading material purported to do just that.

Are you asking me? Is this something I said anywhere in my posts? Where did I say that democracy and freedom is only all about the government allowing us to live when we express a different opinion?

McCarthy also allowed his oponents to live : is that also democracy and freedom ?
if thats the point your democraca and freedom reaches then we obviously have a problem of definition.

Again, are you indirectly putting words in mouth?

.

kifeas you are the one who wrote what happens in turkey , and just because it doesnot happen in cyprus it shows the democracy of the ROC

I said many times that if such an English language newspaper existed in many other countries, like Turkey for example, which would carry such an anti-Turkish establishment propaganda towards the rest of the world, it's premises would have been demolished within a week and its journalists would have been on the missing persons list. With this I do not want to imply that such an act is permissible, or that this should be the fait of the people of Cyprus mail, because such an act would have been illegal and immoral. However, this by itself proves how democratic and liberal the RoC is, to allow a G/C newspaper to carry such an anti government propaganda from within the country towards the international community, while at the same time to spend millions of pounds every year for the purpose of informing the same foreign public of its own positions, and while also at the same time Turkey is spending billions of pounds for the same purpose.

if thats not what you meant then i apologise.
but thats what i get out of it.

I saw Drousitis DVD and I was even present in a presentation by him in Pafos on this subject. Are you criticising me for not posting on a subject that I do not even recall if and when it made its appearance on the forum, or are you telling me that I do not know the definition of democracy and freedom of expression and /or press?

kifeas cut the poetry. or as the greek communists say : stop the syndicalism.
you saw the DVD , you where there .
ANY COMMENTS on the matter ?
did you watch that research and you thought everything was ok ?
i mean ,all i am asking is an opinion.
does that incident fall in your idea of democracy and freedom of expression and or press ?

I looked at it today after GCG put up the link for me. As far as I saw its just a paper. No signs of americanisms or anything. Maybe I am dumb...

If you look at the names of the staff of Cyprus mail you will see why they do not support Cyprus. Because most of them are foreigners. If a Cypriot was issuing a newspaper in the UK wouldn't he support Cyprus instead of UK?Of course a name like UK Mail of Cyprus would be more appropriate for them but anyways ;)
