How do we know that the Cyprus Mail is American-funded??

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Hi i am new to this forum. Just wanted to add that the mail is not pro american or uk for that matter. You only have to read Gwynne Dyers articles who is in my opinion very anti American and writes very good articles. Also in my opinion i say it was great at least to have one newspaper in cyprus that has a different view point on the Annan plan and the Cyprus Problem and is not pure propaganda like most of the other media tv and papers in Cyprus.

No they are also pure propaganda, but only from the other end of the stick.

Glad to oblige, Kifeas.

1. In 1827 the Englishman Godringdon leads the fleet of the great powers that destroys the Turkish armada at Navarino and Greece because for the first time in its history an independed nation.

2. In 1897 the fanatics and the nationalists lead Greece to war against Turkey (after 1821 all Turko - Greek wars were started by Greeks). The Turkish army soon smashes the Greek army and makes its way towards Athens. The English (with the Russians) saved the day by insisting that the Turkish army retreats to its pre war positions.

3. At the turn of the century, the Greek army enjoys many victories over the Turkish army. This is attributed mainly to the superior Greek navy which has sailors trained by English officers.

4. In 1922 when the Asia Minor campaign went terribly wrong, England decided to put Greece under its protection. Thus, when the Turkish fleet left Bosporus to attack the mainland, the British fleet stood in fron of them and threatened to use force if the turkish ships approached to within 15 miles. The turkish fleet duly returned to base.

More ... slogans will follow, the list is endless.

Cyprus Mail is a good paper which produces nice articles without any bias that exist in any other local paper! It is worth reading!

Absolutely Michalis and this is precisely the reason why the bigots want to discredit it with rumours that it is american funded. Old trick which still works, I am afraid, in this plantation of ours.

Well I dont know this paper, and it might be a good paper or not. But to say they have no bias at all is grossly inaccurate. Every newspaper in the world is biased one way or another. Some more some less. SO I am sure this one is at least a bit biased too, that of course doesnt mean its a bad paper

Typical ! Americanico daxtylo is at it again ! It seems to me that the Cyprus Mail has a role to play in the current affairs of Cyprus , but I must admit that I did raise an eyebrow at the lack of respect shown for the President in some of its comments. We are , however , a democratic nation and must accept that the media has every right to criticise , even belittle our politicians provided is not done in a vulgar and intrusive fashion .As for the The Cyprus Mail being the recipient of financial support from the States , WHY ? What benefit will the States derive from this . Perhaps Im wrong , some one please enlighten me. Until such time , I will put all this down to the insatiable appetite for anti - Us so prevailent amongst my fellow Cypriots.

Miltiades is right, here we are yet again. If it doesn't align with what certain people think it should, then the Americans must be behind it. Those American bastards again!! I am amazed at how much credit many Cypriots here give the Americans. While they are dealing with Iraq and Afghanistan, their own domestic problems like immigration, trying to deal with North Korea and Iran, and trying to get China to raise the value of the yuan--they still have the time and resources to fund a Cypriot newspaper because getting their propaganda spread in the island is a main objective! How ridiculous this notion is. For those you who would be so delighted to see the US crumble, I got news. It wouldn't make our problems go away. In fact, it would create much greater problems.

I like also Phileleftheros but I dont like reading somethig that does not provide critisism fair critisism on any issues then I found the paper very boring indeed! This is the reason I found Cyprus mail a nice paper to read because it provides fair criticism on many aspect. It s been long time to read Cyprus mail and I dont know what is going on anyway but I ve read some articles in the past which were really enlightening to me!
