My limited experience in knowing what to bring and what to buy has been that Cyprus is more expensive that Asia certainly in things electronic and in things hand made. What's left are items imported from Europe which are quite expensive here. We're actually bringing our teakwood flooring and lots of rosewood. However, we're not bringing wines or barbeques or anything.

Anyone know anyone interested in high quality Cuban and Honduran cigars? I must dump them or pay 20% value (customs) + $50 per kilo.

Generally, the prices of most things seem just too high now in Cyprus. I think it is now a more expensive country than England, at least, for imported goods!!!

I suspect that importers may be making too much money. Maybe they are doing this while they can as European competition is coming. I heard German supermarkets are about to come here.

Can someobody confirm or disagree with my thoughts?

Can't say too much. Only that in Hong Kong (another place that imports a great deal) despite our proximity to Mainland China (the world's manufacturer) it is still cheaper to buy many things in the US--perhaps because of parallel import laws. In any case, I did a price comparison on food and so forth and Cyprus seems cheaper. Hence, it may mostly with high quality durable items where the extra premium kicks in.

Are we allowed to buy items in other parts of the EU (pay the tariffs and so forth there) and bring them to Cyprus?
