I saw an article about Biodiesel some time ago. How expensive is it to create Biodiesel from cooking oil? Can somebody do this by himself?

As I have just filled my car up in Uk am curious how much normal diesal and unleaded is in Cyprus now. We used to own an L200 when we lived in Cyprus but could not afford to run it in UK so had to sell it before we came back.

In Limassol there is a pump with "BIO-D.Z.L." sign, near old port roundabout (next to the church). Since my Greek is no good, I couldn't figure out what exactly was written there, only price of 46.5 cents per litre.

Anybody knows?

Anybody can do this but you need to pay the duty to be 100% legal.

Also your cars exhaust will smell of chips.

What long term effects does it have on the car?
Do you need to do some form of conversion to be able to use the biodiesel?
Does it matter if its a very old vehicle?

The older vehicles accept it better than the new ones.

I have heard some problems occur on aluminium blocks but as most are still iron thats not widespread. You will also neet to keep an extra eye on fuel filters. From what I can tell Mercedes cars seem to take biodiesel without any probs at all
