The International Canoe Games will be held in Cyprus from this Friday April 28 to April 30.
The games will take place at the Germasoyia Dam in Limassol, in cooperation with the Cyprus Canoe Federation.
Encouraging more sports tourism on the island is one of the Cyprus Tourism Organisation’s key objectives over the coming years.
The Mayor of Germasoyia Panicos Louroutziatis said that dams can without losing their purpose contribute to improving the quality of the tourist product on the island, as well as to develop sports, recreation and other activities.
“That is the fundamental reason the municipality is supporting in every possible way the Pancyprian Canoe Federation’s activities,” he said.
The federation’s president Marios Karapatakis said that canoeing in Cyprus has developed rapidly since 1998 with the participation of sports clubs.
He said he was certain that the games will be successful and will attract many fans of the sport.
