TURKISH GREEK BLACK & WHITE

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby andri_cy » Mon May 08, 2006 2:45 am

I for one never said it was your fault. The only one who can control how frog acts its himself. The same goes for everyone. No excuses and no one standing up for him. Even if you were wrong in what you said he could have chosen to act much differently.

You have stated that I am a bad person and that is no excuse for frog to carry on like he did.

Why am I a bad person Andri because I swore from frustration.
No one in your familly has ever sworn from anger or frustartion??

Well it depends on how you take it. When I said bad, I meant bad in the way that I tell my daughter that she is bad when she pulls my flowers out of the pots. I didnt mean bad person I meant bad as in maybe misbehaving. I understand you are frustrated, I even understand why. But to swear, it makes them right in their claim that you are full of hatred and you wrong. All I am saying whatever your advisary might be in life, if you face them with dignity and point out what they are doing wrong with politeness it is more efficient and then no one can accuse you of being in the wrong. So when I said bad, I meant not bad person. Who am I to judge you? I dont know you. And to answer your question, everyone in my family including me swears from frustration, that doesnt make us right :P

Hang on Andri, I'll stand up for him. Yes he was wrong to lose it, but he did the right thing and stepped away from the forum until he has cooled down. I hope he comes back. We are dealing with humans here – and humans are all fallable. There are exceptions: Mandela, Gandhi, Christ (although they all lost their rag from time to time). But that's what makes them exceptions, they are exceptional. The VAST majority of us are grunts who are only a few slaps away from picking up a rock and hurling it – and that's why the Cyprus problem exists in the first bloody place.

Rather than start a school for Messianic principles, let's do the baby steps thing and treat each other like humans – and that begins with respect and HONOUR. We have to begin by honouring each other and ourselves, and by affording respect wherever it is earned.

I am no angel, like the rest of us, but I have afforded Malaka respect in the past when I felt that he has earned it from me and I will continue to do so. I will also show respect to GCG when she earns it from me and stops treating me with such contempt.

I will defend Frog's actions because he was provoked into letting the animal inside him out by other members never taking any steps to restrain their animal inside. I have not once witnessed GCG attempting to restrain her animal inside, so I will afford her no respect until she demonstrates such restraint. Then I will leap right in there.

Who am I to judge you? I dont know you.

Ah come on! You too are human Andri! You are no Gandhi! You have every right to judge Malaka, and admit it, you do it regularly! To deny this is to deny your humanity! You have judged Malaka, GCG, me, Miltiades, every last man jack of us. If not, if you truly say you have not and do not, well then I hope you don't vote in your national elections – because judging the characters of people we barely know is the very essence of, the principle behind democracy itself. And that's the best solution to running the grunts that any civilisation (Greek included) has ever come up with!

I would like to refer you to the posts made by Malaka within the past few hours. Here we see the malaka we last saw on the 5th March, when I last apologised to him, with humility, for making assumptions about his character. I will happily make similar apologies to malaka or GCG on any day of the week, when they demonstrate those characteristics that bring us all closer to your (and my) ideal – where they display restraint, humility, dignity and honour and start showing other people (whom they too do not know) a modicum of respect.

Andri, would you prefer us to believe that you are looking down on the rest of us from some glowing white cloud, thinking to yourself "Ah. my poor, struggling children – one day they too will be like unto me?"

No, of course not. That was a provocative thing to say, and I apologise for its provocative nature. I don't know you, but I can gather enough from your previous posts to make judgements about you.

And just as I have said before, I don't blame Malaka for being angry, but having made his point. surely he should try and move on. He does show glimpses of this from time to time, and he obviously does want to try and talk it through, otherwise why keep coming back?

But to get back to my original point, yes – I will stand up for frog, because the balance shows that, by and large he is cool.

As you have said yourself:

And to answer your question, everyone in my family including me swears from frustration, that doesnt make us right

No, it makes us HUMAN.

Now, everybody, time for a group hug. Come on, group hug! Andri? You too Malaka. Malaka? You know you want too...

Kalahari you are wasting your time !!! You said "where they display restraint, humility, dignity and honour and start showing other people (whom they too do not know) a modicum of respect. "
You have as much chance as I have of convincing such people that the way forward is through negotiations , mutual respect , magnanimity and gestures that will influence so many people for years to come. These people are utterly convinced that the only way to achieve their goal is to be rude and vulgur to all who do not share their platform of hate.
The do not even understand the concept of a civilized debate, so forget it.

Trying to convince people on forums only creates mudslinging. Until we're put in a position that we can generate trust is by doing business with one another without the politics. The very few TCs and GCs that do business with one another, I'll bet you anything that they dont have harsh feelings towards one another. Im not talking about TCs that work for GCs either, or vice-versa. An opprortunity to do business with one another is the true way of getting over the nationalistic bullshit here in Cyprus. Obviously the foreigners are not allowing this to happen unless theres something in it for them, at both of our expense. Something like whats going on in Iraq.
If we cant come up with a solution on our own(which is almost impossible at this point), the VAT in Cyprus would be also going to foreign countries or something in that nature. So we may be independent in the future but for a price, because we couldnt find it on our own.
So the way forward I believe is to start a non profit way for GCs to interact with TCs in good times and laughs, like a concert on the beach singing in English so no one will be offended. Then we'll read the feedback in the newspapers, if its good interaction everyone will find out and it'll start making everyone talk positive and start thinking a little positive.

I do not separate people, as many narrow-minded others do, into Greeks and barbarians. I am not interested in the origin or race of citizens, I only distinguish them on the basis of their virtue. For me, each Foreigner is a Greek, and each bad Greek is a barbarian. If ever there appear differences among you, you must not resolve them by taking to arms; you should resolve them in peace. If need be, I shall act as your negotiator.

Wow. What visionary said that? And before you land into me with accusations of being the headless Turkish mother of a Turkish Dog, spit, spit, spit, grrr, gnash, grrr – no, it wasn't me.

It was some fella called Alexander the Great. Alexander the Turk Appeaser more like. Git.

Bloody good point, growuptcs

I note with some enthusiasm that Cyprus and Egypt have held very successful talks. This is excellent in my book, because it doesn't mention anywhere I can see in the editorials i have read any mention of Greece or Turkey. Only Cyprus and Egypt. First class! Well done Cypriot government!

And how well it enforces your point, growuptcs, that TRADE is the way forward.
