demilitarization of nicosia is possible

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

demilitarization of nicosia is possible

Postby cypezokyli » Tue Apr 18, 2006 9:10 pm

A DEMILITARISED NICOSIA will enable

- the demilitarisation of the island;

- reunification of the island;

- transferring the no man’s land to an area used by everyone;

- using no man’s land for social and cultural purposes;

- opening dead ends to ease the traffic flow;

- discussing the military camps in other cities and villages;

- ending the military ceremonies encouraging chauvinism and hatred;

- inter communal trust through the process of solution.

Therefore, I support the demilitarisation of Nicosia.

Nice to see that something constructive is happening although more should be done!

Sounds good! But what do they mean by:

Nicosia, full of dead ends due to military zones, would solve its traffic problems more easily with the demilitarization of the city.

The dead ends are because of the occupation. How will the dead ends end? :? And what is this "New Cyprus Party"?

Sotos,

I'm speculating - again, speculating - that whatever dead ends existing in the city would be shifted to just two spots on the perimeter of the existing city.

(old city or the whole city - I haven't read the details; I'll the use the [city] from here on)

The goal - I think - is to sort of transform the [city] into one big Ledra Palace boardroom, where people can sit around the metaphorical table without having to think under whose jurisdiction the land would fall. Whatever existing checkpoints/dead ends in the [city] on the TC "side" would be moved back to form a semi-circle around their "side" of the [city], a semi-circle whose endpoints would join together with the endpoints of the GC semi-circle on the other side.

Thus, there would be only two ultra-sensitive spots in the [city] perimeter (and therefore creating dead-ends in only these locations) , where the two semi-circles meet on the east side and where they meet on the west side.

People will be able to mingle freely within the [city]. I've been proposing the same idea of a free space for awhile, but with the "process-structure" being a school property instead of the land of the whole [city].

For a great explanation on what a process-structure is, go to this link: http://www.mediationadr.net/mediainform ... ticles.htm . Scroll 1/4 of the way down the page to the paragraph that begins with "Lederach went on to talk about values as Process-Structure, and the relationships, or energies, between values."

Lederach really knows what he's talking about.

Cypezokyli, this is very fascinating. Thanks for sharing. :wink: (They need an emoticon with prostrating arms.)
