Wife of Macwomble here..... I just wanted to add a little something to what has obviously become a heated debate. I have never set foot outside the UK for many reasons in my 38 years, but I am moving to Cyprus very soon because my husband has a job there.
I have been told many many times that Cyprus is a beautiful and very friendly place, and I do still truly believe this.
As a Scot living in Scotland, I have experienced more racism and lack of understanding of other religions, cultures and colours for that matter, than I care to properly remember. And it has always bothered me. I believe in a live and let live attitude. Be nice to others if you want them to be nice to you etc.
I cannot even walk out my own front door without experiencing lack of respect, as many of the children around my area have never been taught to respect elders or personal property or the like, I was bullied at school for many years by my so called peers, and therefore know a lot of what people here are saying about feeling like outsiders in their own country. But none of that has changed how I feel. I still think people should be treated as you would like to be treated yourself.
