expats have fun

Postby unique_earthling » Wed Apr 05, 2006 9:03 am

Working people in Cyprus frequently ask retired expats what they do to make their days interesting.
For example, the other day I went into Paphos town and went into a shop and I was only in there for about 5 minutes. When I came out there was a policeman writing out a parking ticket. I went up to him and said, "Come on mate, how about giving a senior citizen a break?" He ignored me and continued writing the ticket. I called him a Nazi Bastard. He glared at me and started writing another ticket for parking half on the pavement blocking the walkway. So I called him a piece of stinking dog shit. He finished the second ticket and put it on the 4x4.s windshield with the first. Then he started writing a third ticket. This went on for about 20 minutes. The more I abused him, the more tickets he wrote.

Personally, I didn't give a shit. I came into town by bus.
But I try to have a little fun each day now that I'm retired.

well thats cleared things up, fascinating subject profiles of criminal offenders, their personalities and behavior patterns. Maybe a great thread would be, why is Cyprus crime, on the rise? Personally i have my own theory and of course some imperical evidence is included in my thought processes. Lax parental control due to chasing the buck rather than being there for the children, influx of more insecure and fearful individuals from 3rd world countries. and of course the fact that many have got away with it because they knew someone who could swing it.
so gives them a feeling of being outside the law. strong mother figures who have intimidated making their children feel powerless, and hence the need for those individual to seek external power so their recognition needs are met, but abuse the power as did their parents with them. obviviously this is an over simplification, but it would be interesting to get an experts views on the subject.
