ever heard of Pangea ? It was a supercontinent in the triassic period when virtually all the land was one supercontinent
north america and australia were part of this giant supercontinent

The sulphide map shown here leads most scientisits to belive that the cyprus panhandle fits neatly into the notch into the sakarya cotinent later the anotilde area,
There again maybe the paeliantoligists are all lying too

Peace

Piratis doesent believe in that part of history from 1960 to 1974, when the Turkish Cypriots were treated like an irritation by the Greek Goverment, yes the greek Goverment because a true Cypriot goverment didnt exist, it was a puppet regime with Greece holding the strings.
Greece used the greek cypriots ( good guys mostly ) to suppress the Turkish Cypriots
the good Greek Cypriots who refused to support the suppresion of their TC neighbors were shot or sent for a talk with a blowlamp and a pair of pliars

Turkey Gave Cyprus to Britain as a protectorate as part of a deal where Britain’s navy would dominate the black sea if Russia tried to invade Turkey,
Later because of Turkeys involvement with the Germans Britain annexed the Island and lots of Turkish Cypriots fled to Turkey
The British presence on Cyprus stopped the germens occupying it in WW2
The German Plan that occupied Tunisia was to move along the coast up through Egypt and drive through to the Suez Canal this would have put almost the whole of the med under German domination.

Unfortunately for the Germans there was a little problem called the 8th Army under Montgomery, they stopped the German advance and pushed them back out of North Africa

Bakala, I am glad that you now learned to use the internet. But what level of education do you have?

The time of Pangaea (a greek word by the way) humans did not even exist! So whats your point?

Are you sure Piratis you didn't forget a big big period? 1963-1974 period?

Here I take everything from the beginning until the end without leaving anything out:
http://www.cyprus-forum.com/viewtopic.php?t=5284

Yes, during the intrcommunal conflict crimes were committed from both sides, not as bakala imagines.
Unfortunately you remember only the crimes of GCs during that 1 decade, and they forget the rest of the history before and after that. They even forget the crimes of TCs (with TMT etc) during that same decade.

So no, GCs are not the evils that deserve to be punished and their land stolen. As far as TCs, I have never asked for the violation of even a single human, legal or democratic right of them. What I ask is human rights and democracy for all Cypriots.

Why do you insist on presenting GCs as evils to excuse crimes against them, when you know very well that Turks had committed 100 times more crimes? Isn't it better to just stop excusing crimes and illegalities?

Pirates

I believe you claimed that Cyprus never was joined to the mainland i said it was. i never claimed that homo sapiens existed then,

as for me using the internet i made my first PC in 1973, you couldn’t buy them then for the home, you had to assemble your own from parts bought from Radio shack, i connected to the infant internet in 1976 via IP to IP to the Chicago library (looking glass service) which at the time was the best internet portal available, you probably don’t know that in those days there were no internet providers like there are today.

A for my education I was born and educated in Manchester,
I have credits for modern military history.
I became a student of mankind and humanity, I became political peace activist at 17, there are no diplomas for this kind of study, and the period of study continues until you die. i am now 57 and have been a peace activist for 40 years

As for the Cyprus conflict i dont condone or try to justify any of the killing, i just try to understand how and why it happend,

When a nation attacks another nation it is not a crime to defend yourself, the Greeks instigated the attacks against the TCs, once it boiled over into a civil war the gloves were off . Certainly once the coup was instigated the rule book was torn up and the Turks Invaded

You forget mate I don’t blame the GCs for what happened I keep repeating the Greeks were the prime movers behind the plan for Enosis at any cost, Some but not all Greek Cypriots opposed enosis, And I would like to believe that the very great majority of Greek Cypriots were against the suppression of their TC Neighbours,
There would have been some cases where a Greek Cypriot would have willingly joined in the looting and killing of the TCs but I would like to believe those were isolated cases. Unless of course I am wrong and the whole Greek Cypriot population wanted to murder the TCs out of existence,
You tell me which one it was

Bakala, if GCs or Greeks wanted to "murder the TCs out of existence" they would have done something similar to the Turks had done before against Greek Cypriots:

In an orgy of victory on the day that the city fell--September 9, 1570--20,000 Nicosians were put to death, and every church, public building, and palace was looted.

So cut the propaganda please. There was never an attempt either by Greece of GCs to "murder the TCs out of existence". In the inter communal conflict that lasted about a decade some 100s of TCs and some 100s of GCs had died. Stop presenting the events as if the TCs were only on the receiving end and stop magnifying those events out of proportion to justify your crimes today.

About Enosis, the union of Cyprus with Greece and the liberation from the colonialists, yes the great majority of Cypriots supported it.

Is there anything wrong with wanting to be liberated from the colonialists?

And just like countries today can join the EU if the majority in those countries wants to, then why is such a criminal idea if the majority of Cypriots wanted Cyprus to unite with Greece.
The colonialists should have given the option to decide in a democratic way their own destiny.

According to the resolution 1541 ( http://daccess-ods.un.org/access.nsf/Ge ... ES/1541(XV)&Lang=E ) of the UN about decolonization, the areas liberated from colonialists should have these available options: 1)free association with an independent State, 2) integration into an independent State, 3) Independence

The choice among any of the 3 should be given to the people with democratic procedures.

Greek Cypriots had never asked for anything that was a crime. Unfortunately the British didn't allow the democratic procedures to take place in Cyprus.

It is a fact that in the intercommunal conflict many innocent GCs and TCs had died. But those events can not be used selectively to try to excuse even more crimes and human rights violations against Greek Cypriots in the year 2006.

In the 1960 agreement Britain tried to be fair to the Turkish Cypriot minority
Britain also recognised that, by preventing annexation to either Greece or Turkey satisfied the rest of Europe that no one nation would dominate the western approaches to the canal, Any nation controlling the whole of the island would have the biggest stick in Europe. Britain who had held that stick was reluctant to pass it on to someone else. With the independence of Cyprus the big stick no longer existed.

Enosis would have created the big stick again so was unpopular in Europe, the landings by Turkey scared Europe to death because all of a sudden 40.000 turkish troops were on the brink of overrunning the whole island with no one able to stop them, Turkey would have held the big stick, The Turks could have closed the approach to the canal to any greek shipping,

A potentialy hostile force controlling Cyprus would be disastrous for europe

Cyprus future will be affected by Turkey and EEC policy towards Turkey

The future acceptance of Turkey into the EEC is extremely desirable to Europe; it would be the first stride into the Middle East, for the EEC. America would welcome it too as a potential ally for influence over the Middle East.
Turkey whether you like it or not, does present the desirable face of Islam. And with its geographical position it blurs the religious and ethnic divide between Europe and the Middle East, Geographically it also controls the entrance to the black sea and access to Russia

Turkey waits at the door of Europe to be accepted as a partner, there are some political parties in Turkey that call for Turkey to look to the east for friendship and alliance, God help Europe if they ever get in power, because then we could have the most extreme face of Islam at the back door of Europe and this would never be acceptable to either Europe or America.

The way Europe treat Turkey at present could swing Turkish Politics either east or west and the political power mongers in Europe know this, they want Turkey in Europe but are haggling for political reforms in Turkey so they are acceptable for membership. That is the state of play at present.

Turkey holds a powerful card in its hand called the TRNC, Turkey will get into Europe whether it plays the Cyprus card or not,

An independent Cyprus or a divided Cyprus are both (unofficially) acceptable to Europe, A Cyprus dominated by either Turkey or Greece is not. This is why I believe that the TRNC will be released from isolation on humanitarian grounds as a prelude to a federation of states, the south under the influence of Greece and the TRNC to Turkey with an agreed date for acceptance of Turkey as a member of the EEC

The land ownership issue will be a small obstacle that will be overcome and the fact the someone called Fred Papadopilus has 4 donums of land in lapta that he can’t live in wont stop the intention to bring Turkey into Europe,
The land issue will be settled like all minor issues with money, people’s greed can always be relied on to settle minor affairs, in the context of European and world politics the Cyprus land issue is small potatoes, that’s reality
