WERE OFF

Postby MACKAM1955 » Sun Mar 19, 2006 6:01 pm

Yes its happened weve sold the house (move out 31 March ) after nearly a year and its full steam ahead for Cyprus hopefully about the end of April. Thanks to everyone who has given me advice through this forum, ive just bought a laptop to use in Cyprus so I can still log on. Were renting for 3 months or so till we buy, would anyone advice the best way to buy should we buy outright or mortgage and keep lots of dosh in the bank?. Were bringing my 1998 BMW 1200cc bike with us does anyone know if i will have to pay any duty when it arrives? and will we have to get insurance or can I get away with whats left on my insurance here if I just notify the insurance company were going touring for 3 months. Once again thanks to everyone who have helped us..

Cheers

Eric & Sue Wood.

Dear fellow!

all the best of luck.

I advise renting, its less of a committment and allows you to suss things out on the ground once here.

regarding your bike, speak to the british council in london for advice before you go. The more you tie up in UK, the less headaches you'll feel when you get to one of the most disorganised countries in the planet. Not to put you off one inch I swear.

happy trails brother.

Hi Eric and Sue

You are each allowed to import one vehicle, providing you have owned them for at least 6 months and VAT has been paid in an EU country.

If your bike falls outside this 'allownace' you will have to pay Duty and VAT on it; I included a formula for calculating its Duty in the General Section a few minutes ago.

Mortgage or buy outright; depends upon whether you are working, whether you wish to have an extravagent/parsimonious lifestyle, how much cash you have etc etc, it is impossible to generalise.

Please feel free to pm me if you want to discuss any of these matters.
